The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 996

It was quiet in the private room. Dorian invited everyone to take their seats. However, it did not take long for someone to curiously ask, “Madelyn, isn’t Mr. Jardin your brother? Why does it seem like you’re not very close to him?”

It was an intern who said that. She unknowingly had crossed a line. Clement frowned as he gave the intern a warning look. She immediately sensed something and hurriedly covered her mouth, “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to ask that. I won’t ask anymore.”

Madelyn just smiled faintly. She calmly explained, “It’s fine. We were indeed siblings before. But after my father passed away, I didn’t really have any relationship with him anymore. Moreover, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. There’s always a price to pay

after taking someone else’s things. That was a two-million-dollar bottle of wine… I won’t be able to save up two million dollars even if I work at the studio for more than ten years.” Someone asked, “What about the viral news that said you two were getting married?”

Madelyn subconsciously tightened her grip on the cup of juice she was holding, “We won’t be getting married.”

She thought, ‘Even though we have a marriage license, I’ll never acknowledge it. Just like I won’t acknowledge Dalton.’

Dorian quickly stood up, “Enough. Why are you all prying into her private matters? We aren’t reporters. Now, let’s just eat. And after dinner, we can go to the hot springs together. Let’s enjoy ourselves tonight.”

Madelyn was no longer afraid of what outsiders might say. She thought, ‘This situation today was meant to embarrass me! Cecilia, I won’t compete with you in this lifetime.’

Madelyn was very quiet during the dinner. When someone talked to her, she would only respond briefly. She did not eat much either.

Her behavior did not fit with the lively atmosphere.

She sat and ate quietly alone. Although her demeanor was cold and unapproachable, every movement of hers was elegant. Even those attempting to get close would easily feel inferior in her

presence.

Madelyn was truly gorgeous. Every strand of her hair seemed delicate. People who silently admired her felt frustrated as they realized they could not match her beauty.

After eating, people started singing again. Some even went to soak in the hot springs.

Then, many people started leaving.

It was finally quiet. Madelyn was sitting on the sofa in the private room when Clement could sense her uneasiness. So, he approached her and handed her a plate of fruit.

He said, “They’re a little outspoken. Don’t mind them.”

Madelyn shook her head, “I’m fine.”

After Dorian finished smoking, he walked in from the balcony, “They’ve all left. Madelyn, do

you want to go soak in the hot springs?”

Madelyn responded, “Probably not. I just received a message; the client wants an additional background for a scene. I’ll have to work on it later.”

Dorian patted Madelyn’s shoulder and said, “Don’t talk about work when you’re out here to have fun. How about this: let’s see the snow. I heard there’ll be fireworks later!”

Madelyn replied, “Fireworks?”

Dorian responded, “Don’t you know? There are fireworks every day at midnight in Supreme World.”

The word “fireworks” seemed to touch Madelyn’s heart, making her recall memories from when Ethan proposed to her a few years ago.

He said, “On our wedding day, I’ll set off fireworks across Ventropolis to light up the night sky. You’ll be able to see them wherever you look. It’ll last for the entire day.”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
