The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 986

“Enough with the sucking up. Just get in,” said Cecilia. After a moment of hesitation, Blake got into the car. She spoke timidly and hesitantly, “M-Ms. Samford, may I ask why you’d like to meet with me?”

Cecilia said, “I’ve been busy with other things recently, so I let you work under Kevin. He didn’t give you a hard time, did he?”

Blake answered, “It wasn’t just difficult but downright exploitative. Ms. Samford, look at the dark circles under my eyes. They’re the result of these past few days of burning the midnight oil.”

Cecilia said, “It must’ve been tough. You should go back and rest. I’ll assist you in getting a day off.”

A shiver ran down Blake’s spine as she looked at her smile. “It’s okay, Ms. Samford. Something’s come up at my home recently. So, I’ll be resigning after finishing out this month.

Cecilia asked inquisitively, “What happened? If you’ve encountered any difficulties, do you need a hand?”

“It’s okay, just a small matter. I can handle it myself.” When Blake said this, her sadness was visible.

Cecilia took out a bank card from her elegant limited-edition purse. “You were originally my assistant. Now that there’s an issue at your home, I can’t leave it unattended. Spend this money as you see fit. If it’s not enough, just ask me for more.’

Blake politely declined, “How can I accept this? It’s too valuable. I can’t take it.”

Cecilia said, “Nonsense. Come to my office tomorrow and help me out. I happen to be short of an assistant.”

Blake eventually accepted the money. After some casual conversation, Cecilia once again inquired about Zach’s schedule. Without much hesitation, Blake sent her the itinerary.

Blake got out of the car and watched Cecilia drive away. Her gaze carried a deep and probing intensity. Soon after, she called Kevin, who answered with his Bluetooth earpiece while en route to Southern Haven Villas, “What’s up?”

“Cecilia reached out to me. She also probed about my aunt’s situation.”

Kevin asked, “Your tone sounds happy, huh?”

Blake waved the bank card in her hand and said, “I have to say, Ms. Samford is pretty affluent. There might be six or seven figures in here. I feel like I’ll achieve financial freedom soon. What if I can’t resist the temptation and become her lackey? Then, I won’t have to work anymore!”

Blake wanted to say more, but Kevin had already hung up. After arriving at Southern Haven Villas, the servant handed the prepared gemstone ring to Kevin. This ring had always rested by the bedside. Madelyn had left it at home when Zach coaxed her into doing the wedding photoshoot. Upon receiving the ring, Kevin immediately rushed to the wedding photography studio.

In the dressing room, Madelyn sat in front of the table. All the makeup artists could not do anything with her because she was not cooperating. Zach held the child in his arms while patiently waiting for Madelyn.

While the situation was still at a standoff, Madelyn heard a sound coming from another dressing room.

“Ms. Samford, this wedding dress looks absolutely perfect on you.’

“But I’m not satisfied with this one. Bring me the most expensive one in your store.”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
