The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 985

Then, the meeting finally ended. The executives left while shaking their heads. Susan, who had been waiting outside for a long time, rushed in.

She had a stack of documents while speaking hurriedly, “Mr. Harrison, Ms. Samford is back. She asked us for some documents and even checked the quarterly report. Now I don’t know what she’s going to do.”

Kevin furrowed his brows in silence before leaving the conference room. Blake instinctively wanted to follow but was pushed to the side by Susan. Susan gave her a triumphant expression as well. Then, Susan followed Kevin closely. After Kevin understood the situation, Blake noticed her usual seat next to Kevin was taken. Her stuff was currently placed on a temporary desk. She also saw Susan talking to Kevin in his office.

After a while, Susan walked out and went straight to Blake. She said, ” Blake, Mr. Harrison said you’re resigning, so you should pass on your work to me first. Then, you can go to human resources to sign some documents. After a month, you can leave.”

Susan added, “Oh yeah, you should clean your desk and clear out your stuff. Since you only have a month, you can sit here for now.”

Blake replied, “I know. I’ll clear my desk.”

After Susan left to handle the affairs that Kevin had assigned her, Blake secretly peeked at Kevin and noticed he was busy. After struggling internally, she knocked on the door hesitantly. Kevin beckoned her without lifting his head, “Come in.”

Blake walked through the glass door and asked, “Mr. Harrison, I’m here to clear out my things.”

Kevin replied, “Mmm, remember to close the door after clearing your stuff out.”

Blake pouted upon hearing him, “Okay.

Not long after, Kevin received a call and left. Blake stared at Kevin as he left. She then slammed her stuff into a paper box while cursing, “Heartless animal.”

Kevin did not hear her. When he walked to the elevator, he met Cecilia, who was coincidentally waiting for the elevator. She asked, “Long time no see, Mr. Harrison. I’ve asked for Mr. Jardin’s schedule, but why didn’t you send it to me? Are you disrespecting me, Mr. Harrison?”

Kevin stared at the elevator door without even glancing at Cecilia. He answered. “No one besides Mrs. Jardin can know of Mr. Jardin’s schedule. I am merely following orders.”

Cecilia snickered and made fun of Kevin, “Aren’t you a loyal one? It’s fine even if you don’t give it to me. I still know where he is anyway.”

As she spoke, Cecilia shook her phone in front of Kevin. When the elevator arrived, Kevin stepped into the elevator first and pressed for the underground parking floor. Cecilia did not move and seemed to be going to the same floor. After Kevin drove off, Cecilia sat in her car. When she watched him leave, she took a cigarette and lit one. After a few minutes, Blake came down to the employee’s elevator to throw some trash.

Cecilia stared at Blake for a long time before winding her window down. She greeted Blake, “You’re the assistant originally assigned to me. Blake, right?”

Blake patted her hands. She heard someone call and turned around to see Cecilia.

‘Why’d she call me?’ Blake wondered. Blake walked over cautiously and asked, “Ms. Samford? Did you call me for something?”

Cecilia greeted her, then opened the car door to invite Blake in, “Come in. Let’s chat for a bit.”

Blake refused, “I don’t think there’s a need for that. I still have some stuff I need to handle.”

Cecilia chuckled, “Why? Are you afraid of me?”

Blake waved her hand in denial and said, “No, you are very friendly and treat your subordinates well. Why would I be afraid of you?”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
