The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 857

Madelyn caught her breath. Zach helped her into a fresh skirt before carrying her downstairs to eat. Dalton, his face showing signs of healing, played with his spoon as he sat in a kiddie chair. The maids smiled, watching the couple come down the stairs. After Madelyn took her seat beside Zach, a maid swiftly brought over a bowl of chicken soup. Seeing it, Madelyn’s face showed a hint of displeasure. “You don’t like the soup?” Zach asked.

“It just tastes different from what I’m used to.”

Understanding her, Zach said, “You don’t need to eat it.” He signaled to the maid, “Take it

The maid nodded, replying, “Yes, Mr. Jardin,” and promptly removed the bowl.

Zach then asked, “Ready to dig in?”

away.”

Madelyn always took her time eating. Even as a kid, finishing just one plate of food could take her up to half an hour. Her father, Hayson, had a saying: “Stay quiet at the dinner table and bedtime.” Because of that, she usually did not chat during meals unless someone spoke to her first. As she ate and then helped clean up Dalton’s little spill, Zach watched with a contented look. She did not even realize he was observing her so closely. Thankfully, Dalton’s clothes remained spotless after the spill.

“In the future, make half as much. It’s plenty.”

“Understood, Mrs. Jardin,” the maid replied.

The maid took Dalton away from the table, leaving Madelyn and Zach alone. After finishing his meal, Zach instinctively reached for his pack of cigarettes. However, seeing that Madelyn was still eating, he paused and set the pack back down.

Feeling his lingering gaze, Madelyn asked, “Why are you always staring? If you want to smoke, just go ahead.”

Chuckling, Zach said, “I’ll go have a quick smoke, then come back and join you.”

Madelyn watched as Zach went outside to smoke. She did not like the smell of smoke, which was why Zach always went outside to do it. Seeing him smoke made her lose her appetite, so she went upstairs without finishing her meal.

After a heavy snowfall, the maids went outside to do some shoveling. Zach’s phone buzzed; he answered it and said, “What’s going on?”

Kevin said, “The ring design is with the designer now. Eric told me it’s pretty detailed, so making it will take about two months.”

Zach exhaled, his intent gaze momentarily obscured by the smoke, “Tell him to speed it up. I want the ring in a month.”

Kevin replied, “Understood. I’ll pass on the message.”

The ring’s design held a deep meaning. Zach had personally drawn it with thoughts of a lasting future with Madelyn after their passionate night together. While he once did not feel strongly about whom he ended up with, as evidenced by his earlier relationship with Yvonne, with Madelyn, everything just clicked.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
