The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 858

Zach was always spontaneous. He guided Madelyn to the driver’s seat in the garage and fastened her seatbelt.

“No lectures today,” Zach said. “Start by reversing the car. Remember how I taught you?”

Madelyn gripped the steering wheel. “It’s been a while; I think I’ve forgotten,” she said with a hint of nervousness. “Can you show me again? I promise I’ll pay closer attention.”

Zach looked at her sternly. “You excel in many areas, but driving isn’t one of them. When will I ever trust you behind the wheel alone?” He was just commenting offhand. Even if she learned the basics, she would not be allowed to drive alone.

Madelyn’s driving skills were clearly lacking for Zach to be so direct. Yet, she was not the type to back down easily. With a resolute tone, she said, “I’ll improve with more practice. Not everything’s as clear-cut as you think.”

Zach chuckled, nodding, “All right. I’m eager to see your progress.”

Madelyn had a tough time driving, taking nearly twenty minutes to back out of the driveway and even hitting a parked car in the process. Zach was not bothered about the damage to the car, but he was frustrated. Despite his efforts to teach her, she was not catching on.

After an hour of practice, Zach stepped out of the car for a smoke. Madelyn stayed inside the basic Panamera from Zach’s collection-the car he had bought specifically for her lessons. Hesitating, her foot hovered over the gas pedal. She caught Zach’s gaze, and it felt like he could read her thoughts for a brief moment. She quickly averted her eyes.

Zach said, “You’ve been practicing for quite some time. Why not try driving back on your own?” Gripping the wheel and staring at Zach’s back, a look flashed in Madelyn’s eyes that she rarely ever showed-like she wanted to end him. Suddenly, without giving it much thought and focusing on his back, she floored the gas. The car shot forward. She thought, If he were gone, everything would be over.’

As Madelyn drove quickly toward Zach, a bodyguard rushed up, whispering something to him. Zach, eyes locked on the speeding car, waved off the bodyguard With Zach just a few feet away and not moving, Madelyn hit the brakes hard. The force of the sudden stop made her lean forward, twisting her wrist and causing her to be in pain.

Without hesitation, Zach was at her side. He silently opened the car door, unbuckled her seatbelt, and carried her out. Madelyn was startled by his actions. She felt nervous and did not look at him, worried about what he might think. She wrapped her arms around Zach’s neck. “What’s wrong?” she asked.

“Fred’s here,” Zach replied. “I’m taking you to your room. Don’t come downstairs until he’s gone.”

“Fred? Who’s that?”

All Madelyn knew of Fred was from whispers about his shady dealings in her past life. She wondered. about his presence at the Jent residence.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
