The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 856

Zach’s lips curved into a subtle smirk. Madelyn looked around at the photos she had just set up, feeling quite pleased. “Weren’t you heading to the office?” she asked.

“Why can’t I spend some time at home with you?” Zach asked, reaching out and gently tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. “Does it still hurt?”

Despite trying to remain calm, Madelyn was taken aback by Zach’s forward comments. Her cheeks turned a shade of pink, and she gently pushed his hand away. “Thanks for asking,” she said with a hint of coolness. “I’m doing much better now.”

Zach raised an eyebrow at her response, “Still not used to me, huh?”

Zach’s outburst took Madelyn by surprise. Keeping her cool, she said, “If you care about me, a ‘thank you’ is appropriate, right? Don’t dump your outside frustrations on me.”

When she tried to step back, Zach’s hold on her wrist stopped her, pressing her against the wall. His eyes showed clear irritation, “When will you start thinking? You know a simple ‘thanks’ isn’t what I’m after.”

Madelyn shot back, “Isn’t my body the one you wanted? Haven’t you already had that? What more do you want from me?” She felt uneasy under his intense gaze

Zach smirked, “There’s more to it, and you know it.” Inside, he mused, ‘She’s good at playing dumb. I wonder how long she can keep it up.’

Madelyn hesitated, knowing arguing would not help, “Okay, I get it. If you don’t like something, I won’t mention it.” Wanting to shift the focus, she said, “Unless there’s something else, I’m off to see Dal.”

“Hold on.” Pleased with her response, Zach gently picked up Madelyn, causing her eyes to widen. Grasping his shirt collar, she said, “It’s still daytime. Maybe later?”

Zach teased, “Later for what?”

Lost in thought and grumbling inwardly about Zach’s unpredictability, Madelyn realized she might have misunderstood his intentions. Zach reached into the cupboard to retrieve a well-used ointment as she sat in his lap. He squeezed a little ointment onto his hand and raised the hem of her sleepwear. She felt ashamed and closed her legs tightly.

‘So this was his intention,’ Madelyn realized. “I’m okay; it doesn’t hurt,” she said, even as Zach held her firmly.

“Don’t worry,” Zach replied soothingly.

The mere thought of their previous intimate moments aroused Zach, and Madelyn could sense that. But she did not dare to move. In the next second, he was already kissing her and made further advances. His breathing grew uneven. After a brief moment, he gave her several gentle kisses and paused, looking at her intensely.

“You sure you’re okay? You can be so stubborn sometimes,” he said.

“It’s a little sore.”

“I think some gentle rubbing might help. It should feel better soon.”

“Zach, can you let go for a moment?” Madelyn asked, a hint of embarrassment in her voice.

“Just be patient with me.”

The two spent about an hour in the room. After that, Zach carefully fixed Madelyn’s hair, making sure it looked neat.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
