The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 855

The snowfall reminded her of Ethan’s visit to Paris. Ethan, dressed in a black coat, sat on her favorite long wooden bench with snowflakes settling on his shoulders. After brushing them off, he waited for her for a long time.

“Ms. Jent, why are you crying?” Margaret entered and saw Madelyn sitting on the floor with tears streaming down her face. Concerned, Margaret quickly approached and asked, “What happened?” She tried to comfort Madelyn, wiping away her tears.

Madelyn said, “It’s okay. I’m fine.”

Margaret noticed the person in the photo album Madelyn was holding, “Who’s this? She’s so beautiful!” Eager to get a closer look, she picked up the photo, saying, “She looks like something out of a fairy tale.”

Madelyn replied, “That’s my mom.”

Margaret grinned, “That makes sense. You have that same fairy tale look.”

Only the Jent family’s old servants knew about Alicia, the previous lady of the house.

Madelyn began softly, “My mom was always such a gentle soul. She loved painting and especially loved peonies. Erick planted a whole field of peonies at the manor to make her happy. When they bloomed, the entire place seemed blanketed in them!” At the Jent residence, Margaret was the only person she opened up to. Talking about it felt like she was finally letting out emotions she had kept inside.

“You love painting too. Did you get that from her? What happened to her later?” Margaret asked, piecing things together.

Madelyn hesitated, then whispered, “She… passed away when she had me.”

There was a knock, and a maid said, “Mrs. Jardin, Mr. Jardin’s back.”

Margaret immediately stood. Chatting with Madelyn always felt natural; when they were together, the usual boundaries between employer and employee seemed to disappear. However, Zach’s mere presence was daunting to Margaret, making her uneasy each time they crossed paths.

After parking his car, Zach entered the foyer through the main entrance.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Jardin.”

“Where’s Mrs. Jardin?”

The maid replied, “She’s been upstairs since breakfast.”

With a nod, Zach headed up.

Madelyn hung pictures with Margaret’s help, “Ms. Jent, be careful. I couldn’t bear it if something happens to you.”

“I’ll be careful,” Madelyn said.

Margaret quickly spotted Zach at the doorway. As he gestured for her to leave, she quietly stepped out. Madelyn, still on the stool, asked, “Is this photo tilted?”

“Looks just right,” Zach replied.

Madelyn, casting a sidelong glance, realized Zach was watching her. He seemed uninterested in the photos. Instead, his entire attention was on her. Holding out his hand, he said, “You should let the maids do this. It’s risky.” Madelyn hesitated for a moment, then placed her hand in his. With care, he helped her down from the stool.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
