Suddenly, a powerful gust of wind rushed in as someone opened the door, causing the container to tumble. The cards were scattered and jumbled, with one card landing farther away from the rest.
The abbot retrieved it, discovering it was a card of great fortune. Madelyn went to the hospital after she returned from the monastery. Every time she came, Frida would leave the room without even sparing her a glance.
On Madelyn’s way back from the monastery, she suddenly coughed up blood. All of her bodyguards were shocked. Then, she blacked out and completely lost consciousness.
Madelyn had been overexerting herself for the past few days. She practically did not have a proper wink of sleep.
The bodyguards hurriedly carried her back to ground level, arriving just as the ambulance did. Madelyn was taken to SereneCare Hospital.
While she was wheeled into the emergency, she groggily regained consciousness. The first person she saw was the person she did not want to see-Kai Stewart. He wore a mask and seemed to be examining her.
“Dr. Stewart, the examination room is ready.’
“Mhm,” Kai responded. He gazed down at Madelyn and took off his surgical mask, “We meet again, Madelyn.”
A nurse stood beside Madelyn and wiped away the blood off her. Another nurse chimed in, “Dr. Stewart, we can wheel in the patient now.”
They started to wheel her in. “There’s no need for an examination. It’s terminal brain cancer. It’s incurable,” Madelyn said weakly. The two nurses next to her widened their eyes while Kai narrowed his.
“You’re such a joker, Madelyn. I understand… Zach’s getting married the day after tomorrow, so… This is a ploy for sympathy?” he asked.
Madelyn met his gaze and said seriously, “Do you think I’d joke about my own life?” She turned to look at the white-colored ceiling and continued, I’ve got my meds in my bag. Please get me a set of clean clothes. Thank you.”
When she spoke, she tasted the strong metallic taste of blood in her mouth. She disliked the taste of blood and also the rotting smell of corpses.
Nevertheless, Kai still insisted on letting her get a brain CT scan. There really was a tumor in her brain. Kai walked into Madelyn’s hospital room with his hands in his coat pockets. Madelyn had already changed out of her dirty clothes with the help of the nurses.
Kai smiled sardonically and even started smoking in front of her, “Who would’ve thought that you’re actually dying?”
“Right? You’ve reached your objective, “Madelyn also smiled. Kai took a puff of the cigarette. Then, he stared at the glow of the burning cigarette and said casually, “While it’s true that drug does cause cancer, it doesn’t cause much harm. Besides, Zach stopped in time. By right, you should be fine after you had your uterus removed.”
“Am I supposed to be grateful to you two for not letting me die that early?” Kai smiled nonchalantly, “Could there be a possibility that it’s karma for what the Jent family did?”
Madelyn noticed the hatred in Kai’s eyes, but she could not understand where it was coming from.
“What did my father do to you?”
“You’re asking me? Why don’t you ask your beloved father what he did? Don’t you want to know how your mother died and how you got your name?”
