The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 406

The reporters kept on taking pictures of the car. Jadie handed a bottle of water to Madelyn as she worriedly said, “You don’t look well. Are you okay?”

Madelyn took the water, but she did not drink it. She responded, “I’m fine.” She looked out the window and asked, ” Where are we going?” Jadie did not know either. She asked the person beside her, “Zach, where are we going?”

“Madelyn, where’d you like to go?” Zach threw the question back to Madelyn. It seemed like he was hinting at something. Madelyn put the water bottle at her side. The direction they were heading was likely toward the Jent residence.

Madelyn noticed that. Zach looked at her through the rearview mirror again. She looked away and faintly said, ” Drop me off by the roadside. He’ll come and pick me up later.”

Zach disagreed, “I don’t feel comfortable leaving you alone out there. It’s not even nine o’clock yet. Let’s go back to Southern Haven Villas, and we can discuss anything else later. He did not allow Madelyn to reject him.So, Madelyn just remained silent.

Mya sent Madelyn a text to ask how she was. Madelyn replied: [Don’t worry. I’m fine now.]

Mya responded: [That’s great.]

Madelyn then told Ethan what happened. He told her he would come and pick her up after he finished his work.

Mya texted Madelyn again: [Anyway, your brother is so cool today! The things that he said to the reporters and how he took you away in front of so many people… he was so cool. You have no idea that those reporters were actually frightened by him.]

Madelyn frowned as she replied: [What did he say?]

Mya answered: [You’ll know when you see the news online tomorrow. I can’t explain it all.] She also added a poking fingers emoticon behind her sentence.

They then arrived at Southern Haven Villas. Madelyn thought, ‘Father is probably already resting upstairs at this hour, or he might still be out. I hope I won’t see him. Or else, he’ll scold me.’

The three of them walked into the house one after another. Rosario was still preparing some late-night snacks in the kitchen. She said, “Jadie, you’re back. I’ve made bourbon balls. You mentioned that you wanted to eat that, so I made some. Come and try it.”

“Rosario, Madelyn is back too. Can you serve some for her too? I’ll help you.” “Sure, sure…” Rosario was very happy when she heard that Madelyn was back. She continued, “I’m preparing the bourbon balls for you all to eat now.”

Madelyn was holding her backpack. She stood still as she smiled faintly, “It’s fine. I don’t really like to eat sweet things. I’ll go and do my homework now.” When she finished her sentence, she already took her backpack and sat on the couch.

Rosario asked, “Do you want to eat pastina? You used to love pastina, right? Madelyn replied, “I’m not hungry!”

Zach butted in and said, “Make two. Eat some before you go back.” He put the car key on the coffee table and sat beside Madelyn.

Madelyn tightened her grip on the pen in her hand. She just remained silent and thought, ‘Zach is very observant. He probably knows that I’m avoiding him. Why did he still come so close to me?’ Madelyn felt very uncomfortable being stared at by him.

Zach crossed his legs and said, “I heard you’re currently second in your grade, right? After you get into Ventropolis University, what do you want to do? Do you want to study abroad or continue learning your art?”

Madelyn gave a superficial answer, I’m not sure yet. I’ll see when the time comes.” Jadie walked over with the bourbon balls, “Zach, Rosario made too many. I can’t finish them all. Can you help me eat some?”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
