The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1169

A bulky, chubby-looking guy among the group of people licked his lips and said with a smile, “Ms. Samford, you didn’t need to come here personally over such a trivial matter. Rest assured, if he wakes up, I promise to skin this guy alive for you.”

Cecilia responded, “You guys are so loosely organized just because Zach is no longer keeping you in check now?”

“Ms. Samford, you do know that our boss has already stopped doing anything illegal. Now, we can only earn a little money to make ends meet. We didn’t expect this jerk to be so bold as to mess with that situation. Now our base has been swept. Ms. Samford, what should we do?

“To be honest, the jobs that our boss had us do were indeed quite nice, we didn’t need to spend much time and effort, but the earnings were too little.

Is there any solution?”

Cecilia waved her hand, and the caregiver who helped push Cecilia’s wheelchair quietly walked out of the ward.

The door to the ward was finally closed. Blake returned to Liam’s room. She pondered, ‘I’m not sure if I misheard, but I think I heard Cecilia’s voice. But why would she come here?’

With questions in her mind, Blake fed Liam some soup. After taking the medicine and the IV drip, Blake helped Liam put on a jacket before leaving the ward.

Liam asked, “You’ve been absent- minded since you came back. Did something happen?”

Blake decided not to tell Liam. Considering his weak health condition, she felt it was better to let him continue doing what he enjoyed, like writing novels.

Blake responded, “Nothing. I was just wondering if there’s any unfinished work. I took a day off for you today. so just rest at home. If there are any important documents that need to be dealt with, I’ll contact you. There was a publisher who wanted to meet you today to discuss book publication matters, but I’ve postponed it for you.”

Blake supported Liam as they walked, multitasking by handling the emails on her phone. Neither of them brought up the incident that happened between them.

Liam knew that bringing it up again would only make Blake feel disgusted and distance herself even more.

“Blake?”

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Blake immediately looked up and saw Cecilia waiting for the elevator. Blake smiled faintly. “Ms. Samford, what a coincidence! Are you feeling better?”

Cecilia nodded with a gentle smile. ” Yes, much better. Is Mr. Xander sick?”

Seeing that Liam had no intention of joining the conversation, Blake replied, “Yes, he’s a little unwell. I took him here to get IVs.”

The elevator arrived on their floor, and the four of them entered. After Blake said that, none of them talked in the elevator. Then, Cecilia broke the silence. “You probably know about Kevin’s resignation, right?”

Blake nodded. “Yes.”

Cecilia lightly tapped the side of her wheelchair with her fingers. “Who do you think is the most suitable to replace him?”

Blake gave a neutral response, “I’m no longer part of the secretarial department. As for who is suitable to replace him, you can make the decision. I’m just an assistant; I have no say in this matter.”

Cecilia lowered her head and smiled, showing a cunning expression. When the elevator’s doors opened, Cecilia left without saying anything, her wheelchair being pushed by her caregiver.

When Blake and Liam arrived in the hospital parking lot outside, she sat in the driver’s seat. “Liam, what do you think of Ms. Samford?”

Liam squinted as he looked at the incoming call displayed on his phone. He turned off the vibration of his phone and put it back into his pocket. “No opinion. I just simply don’t like her.”

Blake nodded thoughtfully. “Actually, I don’t like her either. I don’t know why, but I always feel like the way she looks at me is so cunning. When I was her assistant, I could never figure out what she was thinking. When she was pregnant, she seemed to imply to me that the child she was pregnant with belonged to Mr. Jardin, but I was told that Mr. Jardin had never been involved with her. So… What is Cecilia up to?”

Liam responded, “Be careful of her. She isn’t as simple as you think.”

Blake was surprised. “Even you can tell that?”

Liam smiled slightly. “I’ve been writing for so many years, so I can kind of guess what people are thinking most of the time. Anyway, I have something I’d like to ask for your help with, do you mind?”

Blake replied, “No matter what it is, I’ll agree. After all, you’ve helped me so much. Just tell me.”

Liam said, “Accompany me to the Xander residence.”

Blake exclaimed, “Y-Your home?”

Liam leaned back in the car seat with closed eyes. “To be exact, it’s my father’s new family’s home. I owe him a favor, so I have to attend this meal.”

Blake thought, ‘It seems that everything Kevin said about Liam was true. Liam’s background isn’t simple. And his father was the reason I was released from the holding cell. If that’s the case, I have no reason to refuse him.

She responded, “Okay, I’ll accompany you. But let’s make it clear, if I do something wrong, you have to cover for me. I’m used to being casual, and I don’t know much about the etiquette of wealthy families.”

Liam smiled. “Okay! I’ll be with you every step of the way. I can’t leave you to your own devices, especially considering the circumstances.”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
