The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1055

Confused, Blake opened her work email. A notification about permanent positions caught her attention. Only three staff members were mentioned, one each from the Creative Design and Marketing Departments and Blake.

Blake blinked in disbelief. She thought, ‘My name is on the list!’

In the background, the secretary’s office buzzed with chatter.

“It’s okay, Susan. There’s always next month,” one voice soothed.

“Exactly! It’s those with connections who get ahead. Us regular folks just can’t compete,” another added bitterly.

“I can’t believe how shameless some people can be.”

Blake tried to ignore them, but their words were too loud, too pointed. The group was consoling Susan, painting her as a victim.

Frustrated, Blake slammed her desk and stood, “Enough! If you have something to say about me, say it to my face. I’m not putting up with this!”

Tears streaked Susan’s face as she turned to Blake, slapping her across the face.

Susan said angrily, “You don’t deserve this, Blake. You’re not even in my league, professionally or educationally. You’re just cozying up to Mrs. Jardin. What else did you do? Climbing into bed with Mr. Harrison for a promotion? How desperate can you get?”

Blake’s cheek stung from Susan’s slap, but she did not hesitate to slap back. Blake retorted, “I don’t need this job. If it means so much to you, go talk to Mr. Harrison. Stop acting like a child.”

“Y-you hit me! How dare you! Even my mom never hits me! I’ll kill you, Blake! “Susan yelled. Her face was red from the slap. She lunged at Blake, her nails leaving red marks on Blake’s neck.

Blake, who had training in Taekwondo, did not hold back. She landed a punch that sent Susan reeling, “You asked for it!”

Blake removed her work badge, not wanting to be held responsible for any damage. Despite Susan’s relentless attacks, Blake stood her ground, matching each blow with her own.

Someone rushed out to seek help upstairs as the commotion grew. Having just finished a meeting with Zach, Kevin was leaving the conference room.

Zach said, “Don’t be late again like today.”

Kevin nodded, “Yes, sir.”

Then, a secretary came running, panicking. Upon seeing Zach, she froze, “M-Mr. Jardin.”

Zach’s expression was cold. He demanded sternly, “What happened? Speak!”

Breathless and panicked, the secretary stammered, “It’s Blake and Susan, sir. They’re… they’re fighting.”

Rubbing his temples, Kevin excused himself, “Mr. Jardin, I’ll handle this.”

“Go,” Zach replied, pocketing his hands and returning to his office. He encountered Madelyn emerging from the lounge. He asked, “Did the noise wake you?”

Madelyn answered, “I just heard about Blake fighting. Is she always like this at the office?”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
