The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1054

‘I’m late for work.’ Kevin thought.

Kevin’s lateness was unusual for his flawless record at Jardin Corporation. His punctuality was legendary, making this deviation stand out.

At the office, Blake’s red, swollen eyes did not escape Janice’s attention. She handed Blake a comforting cup of coffee and asked, “Blake, are you okay? Did something happen with Liam?”

Blake brushed it off, “Just a late night with sad movies. I should go see Ms. Samford now.”

However, Blake’s meeting with Cecilia was not about work. Cecilia, usually the epitome of corporate professionalism, was dressed casually today. Blake could not help but notice a change in her demeanor.

The conversation took an unexpected turn as Cecilia inquired directly, “Are you dating Kevin?”

Taken aback, Blake struggled to find words, “Ms. Samford…”

Cecilia sat at her desk, clicking through her work email, and said, “Kevin sent me a work-related email this morning. Did you know about that?”

Blake thought, ‘Kevin emailing Cecilia is surprising. He’s always been loyal to Zach, not Cecilia.

‘Everyone wondered if Cecilia would be Mrs. Jardin, but that changed when Madelyn returned, and Zach chose her.

‘Cecilia’s promotion to vice president, after losing favor, seemed like a consolation. After all, she co-founded Jardin Corporation.’

Blake shook her head and replied, “I- I’m not sure.”

Cecilia turned her computer screen toward Blake, showing her the email, ” It’s from Kevin, rejecting your resignation.”

Blake’s eyes trembled slightly, possibly due to the lack of sleep, as she struggled to focus on the person in front of her.

Cecilia walked up to Blake, smoothed her hair, and said, “Blake, as a woman, be confident in yourself and your looks. You’re as good as anyone. I also went to a lesser-known college. Nevertheless, with your skills, you could take over my job someday. You have more potential than Susan.”

Cecilia went on, “The company is very competitive. Our department has only three full-time jobs, and getting one is tricky. You’ll need a staff member’s recommendation; there’s only one spot for that. You’ve been here longer than the three interns, and Kevin’s recommendation for you is a big deal since you’re the first.

“I’m not always at the company, but I know what’s going on; you’re my only assistant. I’ll ignore your affair with Kevin and act like I don’t know. Technically, you both should be fired for breaking the rules. If I say something, not even Zach could save Kevin.”

Half an hour later, Blake left Cecilia’s office. She was more confused than ever. She wondered, ‘How did Cecilia find out about me and Kevin? I was already broken up with him!’

Blake was still in a daze when she returned to her desk, where everyone looked at her strangely.

‘Why does everyone seem to be looking at me strangely?’ Blake pondered.

She sat at her desk and asked Janice for clarification. Janice simply told her to check her work email.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
