The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1046

Liam replied, “I do.”

Liam’s reply was lost in a cold breeze, and Blake could not hear it clearly. Leaves rustled and fell from the roadside trees as she turned back. She felt disappointed.

‘Kevin had already left with Audrey.’ Blake thought to herself.

Blake embraced herself and straightened her long, wispy hair near her ear. She asked, “Liam, why is this happening to me? He’s the one who asked me out, but why is he so cold to me now? We just broke up yesterday, and now he’s keeping me in suspense. Do you think he’s just keeping me on the hook?”

Blake may not be a top student but she graduated from a reputable university. She did not have much dating experience in her student days. The senior Blake dated found her too rigid and chose the campus belle from the neighboring art school instead.

She remained single until now, and it was rare for her to find someone she liked. However, the person she liked was treating her badly.

Blake had never felt so frustrated. She continued, “Even if I pursued him before, he shouldn’t play with my feelings like this, right?”

“Yes.” Liam simply responded and glanced at Blake.

“But did he ever read the love letter I wrote him?” Blake muttered. She wondered, ‘Did he kiss me on that night?”

Blake fell for Kevin long ago and could not pinpoint when. It might have been during her time as his assistant, witnessing his impressive presence in meetings, or when she accidentally tripped behind him and he scolded her.

Maybe it started when Kevin helped her in the face of mistreatment as a new employee and appointed her as his assistant.

Although Blake did not have much to do every day, she spent most of her time with him apart from eating and sleeping, including working late at the office together on weekends.

Zach was frequently out of the office last month. There was a time they had a meeting that went on until very late, and Blake ended up dozing off at the desk across from Kevin.

Though Kevin usually managed his time strictly, that day was a rare exception as he worked late into the night. However, he was always the last one to leave the company, no matter how late it was.

Kevin walked into the office with the files and glanced at the person soundly asleep at his desk. Without lifting his head, he tapped the desk while looking at the documents.

“Huh? What’s wrong?” Blake asked as she was startled. She quickly wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth.

When Kevin saw the drool on the table, he frowned and said, “I’ll finish reading these documents in the next three minutes. Clean the drool and disinfect my desk by then, or it’ll affect your paycheck.”

Blake awkwardly looked at the drool on the table, grabbed a few tissues, and smiled, She said, “Mr. Harrison, I didn’t mean to. I fell asleep waiting for you. Is it done? Can I go clock out now?”

“Excuse me?” Kevin asked.

Blake said, “Hurry up and read it. I’ll be waiting here for you.”

If they worked overtime past ten, Kevin would give Blake a lift home. After all, she was a girl and it was not safe for her to take a cab home.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
