Chapter 36 Challenge Accepted
Zhong Zhen did not want to submit to fate. As a fellow woman, why should I let myself be despised by others?
She turned around and walked toward Feng Beichen’s side, then snuggled into his arms, saying demurely, “Chen, isn’t Ms. Jiang usually ladylike? Look at her now, does she think that this is a movie set while she is an actress?”
She acted very naturally and intimately with Feng Beichen. Jiang Yingyou could not believe her own eyes.
How is this even possible? How could Feng Beichen’s taste be this bad? She was certain that they were acting. But the woman in front of her had said that she was the one faking it. That was the truly annoying part.
“So, who is this? Shouldn’t Mr. Feng introduce her?” Jiang Yingyou had just realized that she didn’t even know this woman’s name. She couldn’t possibly just refer to her as ‘hey you’.
“Let me introduce myself!” Since she could no longer hide her identity anymore, Zhong Zhen decided that she might as well come clean. “I’m Zhong Zhen, Chen’s girlfriend-cum-personal-assistant.”
With a pair of lively and fearless eyes, she stared unapologetically at Jiang Yingyou. However, every fiber of her being was repenting at that moment. I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry. I did not want to lie, and I was simply pressured into it.
Feng Beichen stretched out his arm and put it around her slim waist. He just sat there quietly and seemed to be amused.
Witnessing their intimate behavior coupled with Zhong Zhen’s impudent words, Jiang Yingyou was infuriated and humiliated. She had never been so frustrated before.
Colors drained from her face as it turned gloomy. However, she still wanted to challenge the two. “Oh, since when did Mr. Feng approve of romantic relationships in the office?”
Zhong Zhen replied immediately, “Ms. Jiang, since you are calling him Mr. Feng respectfully, you two aren’t close at all. Why are you delivering a meal to him?” Even though she made the remarks naturally, they were so full of sarcasm. It would really irritate anyone who heard it.
But in reality, Jiang Yingyou could not help but admit that her relationship with Feng Beichen was not as good and as close as Zhong Zhen was with him. No matter how passionate she was to him, it was never enough to warm his cold heart.
She used to think that he didn’t want a girlfriend because of that person lying in coma at the hospital right now. But now, he ended up in a relationship with a nobody; it was truly perturbing.
Feng Beichen looked at Zhong Zhen in his arms with an intimate gaze. This woman is not half bad. She could handle critical situations well and she could even irritate Jiang Yingyou while staying so composed.
Jiang Yingyou laughed and replied coldly, “Mr. Feng, Aunt Lu said that Zun and Yue want me to accompany and play with them this weekend!”
If this isn’t working, I should think of other ways. Maybe I could bring up Lu Jing and the kids? Zhong Zhen wouldn’t know who they are was and so there is nothing she can do.
Zhong Zhen knew that Lu Jing was Feng Beichen’s mother, and that she was a powerful woman. But, what about Zun and Yue? She was completely clueless, not to mention the conversation wasn’t addressed to her. How should she even butt in? What a test of EQ!
Nevertheless, it was too late to try to raise her EQ last minute now.
Feng Beichen simply continued to gaze at Zhong Zhen intimately without a word. Zhong Zhen decided to speak up, “We are in the office, Ms. Jiang. I think it is more appropriate if we move to the guest room. After Chen is done with work, he will go and meet you.”
Zhong Zhen had made a good move by handling Jiang Yingyou’s matters as private matters. Since it was non-work related matters, she being his private assistant should be allowed to get involved.
That wasn’t Feng Beichen’s instructions at all! However, the man was just sitting by the side, keeping his silence.
Jiang Yingyou was frustrated and she spoke straightforwardly, “Mr. Feng, do you prefer Aunt Lu to speak to you personally?”
Considering the relationships that existed between the Jiang, Feng and Lu families, it was inappropriate for him to go overboard. Even though one could not force a relationship, countless marriage deals had been sealed for the sake of benefit and not love, especially amongst the wealthy families.
Feng Beichen knew it well in his heart that he should not push it, but he needed to show his attitude as well. Thus, he looked at Zhong Zhen and raised an eyebrow, “Let’s accompany Ms. Jiang to the guest room and talk!”
“Sure, Chen. It’s almost noontime, and I’ll order two sets of lunch for us. Luckily, Ms. Jiang has brought her own meal, so we can have lunch together!” Zhong Zhen remarked cheekily.
Zhong Zhen was trying very hard to shoo away the inferiority in her heart. She also tried to be herself as how she was before the incident happened: lively, innocent and full of vigor.
After Zhong Zhen finished speaking, the phone on her table rang. Hence, she said, “That must be our lunches. I’ll get the phone.”
As she left the room, Feng Beichen followed her out and gestured gentlemanly, “Please, Ms. Jiang!”
It was just too much! But what could be done? What was going to happen now? Jiang Yingyou felt that she must stay to maintain her dignity, while at the same time find out more about their relationship. She just couldn’t be convinced that he would favor such a woman!
“Mr. Feng, please,” Jiang Yingyou replied graciously and followed him outside.
Once they went out, they met Zhang Junyan and the other secretaries who greeted Feng Beichen fawningly. They were able to recognize Jiang Yingyou almost instantly and they exclaimed in surprise, “Can we take a picture together with you?”
Jiang Yingyou turned and asked Feng Beichen in a soft and amorous tone, “Can I?” Her meek and suggestive attitude made the secretaries glance at her and whisper among themselves. The ladies had all turned into complete fan-girl mode.
These women are utterly lovesick! Feng Beichen replied coldly, “You decide.” Even though it was not a public place, his staff were all there. He had to keep up their image and could not be too casual with her.
Zhang Junyan walked to his side in deep thought. Feng Beichen has too many scandalous relationships! But so what? The final winner isn’t decided just yet!
“Alright, for Mr. Feng’s sake, I will take a quick group photo. But we are in a hurry and you girls have to be quick. We can always do it again in the future, just ask him to tell me,” replied Jiang Yingyou, as she walked toward the group of women glamorously like a peacock.
But in the face of their superior, the secretaries didn’t dare to cross the line. It was just a group photo and it was done fairly quickly.
