The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 975

At that moment, a young woman around twenty-five with long dyed hair and a professional skirt walked in from the secretary’s office, carrying a cup of coffee. She stuttered nervously, ” M-Mr. Harrison, your coffee.”

Kevin frowned slightly, barely concealing his annoyance. He ordered, “Leave it on the table.”

Susan, Kevin’s new assistant, was filling in for Blake. She, clearly uneasy, placed the coffee down and asked, “Mr. Harrison, is there anything else? I still have some documents to print.”

Kevin replied without looking up, “Go ahead.”

Aware of Kevin’s reputation as one of the toughest people to please at Jardin Corporation, Susan hurried out, relieved to escape his scrutiny. She knew that a single mistake could mean a scolding or even dismissal.

As Susan left, Kevin’s voice halted her. “Have you contacted Ms. Dion yet?”

Susan reported, “Yes, Mr. Harrison, as per your instructions. Currently, she’s on a business trip. No one, aside from you, has seen her for a while. I tried calling her but couldn’t get through.”

“Understood,” Kevin acknowledged, returning to his work.

Once alone, Kevin put down his pen and checked his phone. Apart from a few messages about appointments with the CEO, other company heads, and important business matters, the messages he had sent Blake days ago remained unanswered.

Kevin, known for his efficiency, was now being blatantly ignored by Blake. The task he assigned to her was executed disastrously. Frustrated, he sent another message: [Return within two hours or face dismissal from Jardin Corporation.]

Meanwhile, on vacation, Blake lounged in the sun, casually responding to messages. Kevin’s sudden message startled her. She had saved Kevin’s contact as “Meanie.” She scoffed and cursed under her breath, “Damn, mister. Do as you like; I don’t care! I only worked there because of Madelyn. The overtime, the salary deductions. Forget it!”

Then, Blake blocked Kevin’s number, finally feeling at peace.

Blake’s parents were scientists under the Secret Service’s protection. Since her childhood, she has always been close to the Harper family. She took her mother’s surname as her father had married into the family. Blake’s father, often labeled as living off his wife, never complained about the arrangement.

Although Blake was not as wealthy as Mya, she never felt neglected and was well cared for. As for living expenses, she eased Mya’s family’s burden through part-time jobs.

When she returned, Blake noticed a black military vehicle parked outside the Harper residence. She sensed something was amiss.

‘Could it be that the jerk is here?’ Blake pondered. She rushed inside, brandishing a stick. Ready to protect Mya, she shouted, “Don’t worry, Mya. I’m here!”

Inside, Blake was met with a chilling presence. Mya, clutching a doll, hid behind Grace, trembling in fear. The man before them, clad in a black uniform adorned with an eagle

insignia, exuded a terrifying aura. Blake realized something had happened in her absence and that this man was likely the cause of Mya and Grace’s distress.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
