The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 932

Madelyn acted swiftly and yanked the power cord from Zach’s laptop. Without its battery attached, the laptop instantly blanketed the screen in darkness.

Zach just slightly raised an eyebrow, not uttering a word about the call’s abrupt end. He shed his black suit jacket and draped it over the chair Madelyn had just been sitting on. He said, “Your old number didn’t have an area code; most numbers now require a reset and transfer process. I found it too troublesome and canceled your old number. You’ll use this new number from now on, okay?”

Zach spoke as if the matter was light and breezy. His tone suggested that this was a done deal, a decision made for Madelyn without consent.

Angered by Zach’s audacity, Madelyn grabbed a pillow from the bed and hurled it at him. She said, “My phone number is mine to decide on. Who gave you the right to just cancel it, Zach? Are you out of your mind?”

The pillow bounced harmlessly off his chest, leaving him unfazed. Calmly picking it up, Zach returned it to the bed and shared, “I figured you might not remember my number, so I changed mine as well. It’s now just one digit off from yours.”

Madelyn was uncertain whether Zach was joking. She dug out an old cell phone from her bag and tried dialing her usual number. She found out that the number she dialed was no longer in service.

Madelyn struggled to contain her fury. She inhaled deeply, attempting to cool her temper. She said, “Do you realize how many important accounts and information I had linked to my phone? You had no right to take charge of my belongings.”

But Zach seemed pleased with Madelyn’s escalating anger. He said, ” All the contents linked to your old number, including browsing history and logins, have been transferred to this new number. You can continue using the sites and email as usual. Nothing is lost.”

Left speechless by Zach’s preemptive measures, Madelyn’s anger did not subside. That number held special meaning for her because it contained the birthdates of both her and her mother. Clutching her phone tightly, she looked away, voice tinted with restraint, “Don’t take liberties with my belongings again.”

With that, Madelyn exited the room and headed to the living room.

“Where are you off to at this hour?” Zach called out from behind Madelyn.

“It’s none of your concern,” Madelyn replied, her tone icy. Zach’s gaze lingered on the bedside table where a diamond ring worth billions sat unguarded.

Madelyn was craving for a breath of fresh air. She approached the window and looked down to see a couple nestled together on a bench under the streetlight. Kai tenderly adjusted Lana’s hair and scarf as they gazed at the night sky unusually aglow with stars.

Madelyn knew Lana was Andrew’s high school sweetheart-turned-wife, who became physically disabled after a tragic fire during their honeymoon. Madelyn was not privy to the full story behind Lana’s situation but suspected that Kai’s influence had played a part. She found it hard to believe that Lana’s newfound feelings for Kai could so readily replace her decade-long love for Andrew.

Madelyn first heard Andrew’s name during her junior high days and even met him once at a social event. His reputation as a Ventropolis University legend and widespread gentleman was also well-known.

‘If Lana’s amnesia dissipated and she starts to remember Andrew…’ Madelyn shuddered at the thought of Lana’s potential heartbreak upon remembering her past with Andrew. It is even worse that Lana, unbeknownst to her, was carrying Kai’s child.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
