“If you want to avenge them, you can come and kill me with your own hands once you get better. Or else, the next one will be the Young family,” Zach ruthlessly said. A hint of coldness flashed past his eyes as he looked sideways at the door, “Arrange her surgery as soon as possible. If she refuses, tie her and get her onto the operating table if you need to.”
He left the ward after saying that. Every word that Madelyn said was about seeking revenge for Ethan. If Zach stayed any longer, he was not sure what he might do.
Outside the door, Zach instructed the bodyguards, “Keep a close watch on her. No one is allowed to enter without my permission.”
“Yes, Mr. Jardin.”
In the office, Kai thought, ‘I want to make amends. And the only way to do so is to ensure Madelyn is treated and can live safely.”
Zach was standing in front of the floor- to-ceiling window, smoking one cigarette after another. Kai opened the vents to let the smoke dissipate and said, “I know you’re feeling uneasy now. Since the situation has already happened, we can only find a way to resolve it.
“Acting this way is so off-brand for you. Zach asked, “What’s the earliest possible time for the surgery?”
Kai closed the file in his hand, ” Tomorrow. She needs to fast tonight.”
Zach put out his cigarette and turned to look at Kai, “What are the chances of a successful surgery tomorrow?”
Kai remained silent for a long time before finally saying three words, “Ten percent chance.”
Zach thought, ‘Only ten percent?’
Kai pressed his lips together, stood up, and walked to Zach, “It’s been delayed for too long. The tumor has started to press on the cranial nerves. If there’s even a slight accident during the surgery, she could become a vegetable or even…” ‘Die!’ Kai thought.
He continued saying, “Every unexpected event is unknown. So, I can’t guarantee anything. All I can promise you is that this time… I’ll do everything in my power to save her.”
Zach squinted. His gaze was deep and gloomy, “Why’d she get cancer? Didn’t she already undergo uterine removal surgery?”
Kai answered, “Some causes are difficult to explain. I can’t provide an answer.”
A silence followed. They did have an answer. It was just that there were some things they could not face. Perhaps they were guilty and blamed themselves.

Kai watched Zach as he hurriedly left. He looked away and trailed Zach’s earlier directions. He asked, “Has she been examined? What’s the result?”
The nurse walked behind Kai, “Her emotions were too intense, which caused cerebral bleeding. Other doctors have already started preparing for surgery. We’re waiting for you to lead the operation now,”
Zach arrived at Madelyn’s ward, where the doctors were administering a sedative to her.
