The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 716

Frida continued, “I’ll be right outside. If you need anything, just call me.’ Ethan did not give her a warm look. After Frida left, Madelyn pursed her lips and lowered her eyes as she thought, ‘Ethan and Frida won’t be able to reconcile within such a short period of time. That’s why I didn’t say anything. Besides, this is a family matter, so I can’t interfere.’

Ethan’s face suddenly turned pale and coughed. Madelyn hurriedly patted his back, “The doctor said you’re still weak, so you shouldn’t move around too much. I bought soup for you. Let me feed you.”

She then held a spoon to his lips. Ethan opened his mouth to drink. He kept looking at her. He was not willing to look away even for a second.

He said, “Madelyn… I…”

“Ethan, the past is the past. Let’s not talk about it, okay? For now, let’s focus on healing your sickness. We can talk about everything else after that, okay?”

“Okay. I’ll listen to you.” Ethan had nothing left to ask for. The person he wanted was already here, and this was enough for him.

At Jardin Corporation, Kevin received a message from the hospital. He then walked into the CEO’s office and said, ” Mr. Jardin, Ethan Arnold has woken up!

“Okay.” Zach seemed unsurprised, as if he had already known about it. He asked, “What about Madelyn?”

Kevin hesitantly shook his head, “She should still be in the ward. If she leaves, the bodyguards will report her whereabouts.”

Zach extinguished the cigarette in his hand. He stood up from his chair and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.

“Naive! She thinks she knows everything just because she’s broadened her horizons a little. And just because of that, she wants to leave…Tomorrow, remove the bodyguards around Ethan and make sure to keep an eye on the Young family. Without my permission, no one’s allowed to leave the hospital!”

Kevin responded, “Yes, Mr. Jardin.”

Madelyn stayed until an hour before Zach finished work. She then made an excuse to leave. As soon as she reached the door of the baby’s ward, she heard the baby crying. She thought, ‘How could I forget about him?!!

She hurriedly entered the ward. A nurse was carrying him trying to soothe him. As soon as the nurse saw Madelyn, she handed the baby over to her, “I’m sorry, miss. He cries a lot, and I couldn’t calm him down.”

Madelyn responded, “It’s okay. You can go and do your work. I’ll take care of him.”

“Okay.” The nurse left the room while carrying a medical tray. Madelyn said to the baby, “Dal, don’t cry. Are you hungry? Shall I prepare some milk for you?”

“Dal? Not a bad name!” Zach’s voice suddenly echoed from behind. Madelyn was startled. She turned around and saw Zach walking toward her. He removed his black blazer. The room was kept at a constant temperature. It was not cold.

Madelyn did not respond and just continued to gently sway the baby in her arms. It was quite strange because this baby would cry when anyone carried him other than Madelyn. Even if Madelyn did not hold him, he would smile when he saw her.

She thought, ‘I just came downstairs for less than ten minutes, and he’s back. If I’d come down even ten minutes later, he’d surely be suspicious. Perhaps Madelyn felt guilty, she said without looking at him, “Why did you come back so early today?”

Zach stood beside her. He softly touched the baby’s face. Dalton suddenly looked unhappy. Zach responded, “I came back early to spend time with you. Don’t you like that?”

Madelyn was speechless, ‘He knows very well whether I like it or not. There’s no need for him to ask me that.’

Zach asked, “Seems like Ethan has woken up. Haven’t you visited him?”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
