The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 701

Madelyn had no idea what Zach was doing in the silent living room. ‘Is it because he cares about what I just said? Is it repentance? Or regret for everything he had done to me?’

Madelyn knew Zach well; he was never a kind person. He was decisive and ruthless, never regretting his decisions. Zach used Forrest to gain control of the Arnold Corporation. When Forrest was desperate and used her life as a threat, he did not care at all. In the end, Forrest chose to jump off the building. He inexplicably apologized to Madelyn before pushing her away and committing suicide.

Madelyn cowered in fear on the ground. As her husband, he could have helped her stand up with a simple step forward, but he did not. His indifferent gaze even met hers before he left with Cecilia. Madelyn had experienced Zach’s cruelty firsthand. Hence, now she had a second lifetime, she did not believe Zach would show any mercy to anyone.

After washing up, Madelyn sat at the bedside and silently reading the book she got from the abbot. Around 11 p.m., feeling drowsy, she put the book on her bedside and turned off the light to sleep.

In the living room, smoke filled the air. Cigarette butts overflowed from the ashtray on the coffee table, and ashes scattered around. Zach was unsure how much Madelyn knew. He had never experienced these emotions in the past.

‘A child… Madelyn’s child?’

Zach had never thought of having his own child. Even if he did, he knew he would not be a good father. Plus, marriage had always seemed so dull and uninteresting to him. If he truly wanted a child one day, he could have one whenever he wanted because there were always so many women eager to please him.

The two crucial keywords, “marriage” and “child”, created a vivid scene in Zach’s mind. Suddenly, a thought emerged, one he had never even considered with any woman before.

‘If I had a child with Madelyn…’

The mental image suddenly conjured a scene. It was in Floral Loft, and Madelyn was holding a child. As the child is a product of both of them, she stood before him, genuinely smiling,” You’re back? The meal is ready, and the baby has been good today!”

Zach closed his eyes as if in a dream. There was an inexplicable emotion welling up in his heart. He wanted to maintain this scene and see what would happen with her and his child.

For the first time, Zach fantasized about having a child with a woman. Before this, all these were just a burden to him. Building a family with anyone made no sense to him. However, all those thoughts evaporated when he tried to think about it again.

Many things were already predetermined. Madelyn had her uterus removed because she had been drugged. She could have never had her own child in this lifetime, and this was a fact.

At some point, Zach deviated from the original path toward his goal. He felt he was losing something gradually. Having Madelyn removed her uterus was the goal Zach had wanted to achieve.

‘Before this, I never regretted any of my decisions, but when did I start feeling remorseful? Was it when I drove Madelyn to a dead end, and she escaped to Portsmouth Fishing Village by jumping into the sea? Or was it when I found out she had her uterus removed? Or when I watched her repeatedly face danger, standing by and even secretly instructing people to kill her? Or even earlier?’

A great restlessness consumed him. Zach had grown up in a world of coldness and survival of the fittest. The darkness and shadowy paths were like the filthy, lightless sewers. He had never allowed himself to have complicated emotions.

‘Do I care about Madelyn?’

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
