The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 657

Madelyn seemed distant all day. But for Zach, having her nearby was all that mattered. Unaware of Zach’s approach, he suddenly lifted her and seated her on his lap. She did not resist and appeared calm.

“I just want to be alone right now,” she said softly.

Zach took off his suit jacket, leaving him in a rolled-up black shirt that showed off his toned arms. They starkly contrasted with Madelyn’s delicate hands, which looked so fragile as if they could easily break. He tenderly stroked her hand, leaning down to gently kiss its back. He could tell she was not feeling her best today. Despite the strong feelings stirring within him, he held back, respecting her mood.

“I got Kevin to pick up all the jewelry from tonight’s auction. They’ll be sent to you soon,” Zach said.

Madelyn’s voice wavered, “I can’t accept them. It’d look like… like you’re supporting me. I won’t be with you again in that way, not after everything. “She paused, searching for the right words. Sensing her uncertainty, Zach touched her waist gently, ensuring she could not just walk away.

“I’ve been thinking about living in Europe for a while and won’t be going back soon. Where do you see yourself? Maybe here? I’m buying a new place, and it’ll be in your name. Oh, and I had Kevin end your apartment lease.”

Madelyn’s voice was sharp with frustration, “Why do you always decide for me without asking? I left some of my stuff there. You went too far this time, Zach.”

Zach gently touched her chin, meeting her gaze, “I promise I’ll ask you next time.”

Madelyn was baffled by Zach’s ever- changing moods. “Your plans are your own, Zach. I’ve made up my mind to return,” she replied firmly.

Looking out at the city lights, Zach said, “Jasmine had a baby, a boy. He’s three years old now. The Jent family still owns Azure Corporation.”

When Zach mentioned the child, his expression darkened. Madelyn’s heart ached, ‘Jasmine had the child? And Hayson’s still alive? This isn’t how things were meant to unfold. Wasn’t Hayson supposed to die a year ago?’ She remained silent, absorbing his words.

“After you left, Hayson sold your home in Southern Haven Villas. If you go back, you’ll find nothing familiar. Madelyn, life has its twists and turns, and we can’t escape them.”

His words hit her hard, leaving Madelyn with a heavy heart, ‘Father started a new family. Ventropolis isn’t my home anymore.’

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
