The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 655

“What happened?” Zach asked, his eyes softening as he looked intently at her. “It’s nothing. You’re overthinking,” Madelyn replied, her voice flat.

Zach, sensing she was hiding something, moved closer. He gently wrapped an arm around her waist and lifted her onto a table. Reminders of their previous night together were still evident on her skin.

“Don’t challenge me like this; I don’t appreciate it. Got it?” His voice may have been soft, but the cold warning in his eyes was clear. Nevertheless, he seemed gentler now than before.

Taking a moment to touch her hair, he gently lifted her chin, ensuring their eyes met, “Hungry? Tell me what you’d like, and I’ll order from the restaurant.”

Feeling a bit drained, Madelyn replied, “Anything’s fine.” Her attention wandered to the white bedsheet.

“That’s more like it,” Zach murmured, giving her a soft kiss on the forehead. He then made a call to the hotel’s restaurant.

It was not long before a waiter arrived with a cart filled with snacks and dishes. “Enjoy your meal, Ms. Jent,” he said, offering a courteous nod.

Zach stood by the window, talking on the phone and holding a glowing cigarette. When Madelyn coughed softly, he looked at her and quickly snuffed out his cigarette. After hanging up, he sat beside her, gently touching her hair and looking at her closely.

“Kevin’s taken care of the plagiarism issue. I won’t stand in your way if you want to return to work. Just follow the rules, and don’t even think about running off-you’re aware of the consequences,” he said with a hint of warning.

Madelyn took her time with her bowl of cereal, “I want to go back.”

Zach nodded, “Once I’m done here, we’ll head back together.”

“It’s almost the anniversary of my mom’s passing.”

“I remember.”

Madelyn had expected his brief response. Since being with Zach, she had felt her freedom slipping away. He sat next to her, placing her favorite dishes in front of her, but she only nibbled on her cereal, feeling her appetite wane. After a while, she finished.

“I’m full,” she said. Zach glanced at the clock, “It’s still early. Why not rest for now? We can head out for some shopping later.”

“I’m good. I don’t need anything,” Madelyn replied.

Madelyn grabbed a book and lay down on the bed. Growing up, she had always been provided for and did not crave material things. However, she now deeply yearned for freedom and a sense of security. Zach understood her feelings, but he would not, or could not, provide her with that safety. He always put his own needs first. This made her ponder: how does someone as complex as Zach genuinely love? Would he be shattered if he lost the person he cherished?

While Zach worked beside her, he would shoot occasional glances her way. Seeing her asleep, he gently removed the book from her grasp.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
