The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 644

Madelyn was late. When she arrived at the company, Jane, the head of this studio, was in a discussion.

The sound of her hurried steps caused everyone to look her way. Catching her breath, Madelyn said, clutching her chest, “I’m sorry I’m late.”

Jane glanced at Madelyn and tapped the table for emphasis. “I was talking about the email from Encounter Gaming. If you’re confused about anything, come ask me. We’re on a tight schedule, and I expect everyone to give their best. It’s important, especially for your final presentations.

“Meeting adjourned!”

Once the meeting wrapped up, everyone dove back into their work. It was like Madelyn wasn’t even there.

Clement approached with paperwork in hand. “Madelyn,” he began, but she interrupted him, “Clement, weren’t we already swamped with one project? Why did we take another?”

Clement replied, “It’s done. We hustled the past few days, and as of yesterday, we’ve turned everything in.”

Madelyn paused for a moment. “B- But… Yesterday, I contacted the person in charge from Encounter Gaming about the sketches, and he said they were fine.”

Clement responded, “I asked about that this morning. During the past few days when you were on sick leave, Jane stepped in and handled your tasks. She’s been burning the midnight oil to get it done. As for the person in charge you mentioned, I’m not entirely sure. Maybe ask Jane?”

Madelyn glanced at Jane who was sitting at her desk. She then looked away and pursed her lips as she smiled faintly, “I got it. Thank you, Clement.

“By the way, what’s my task for the new project we just took on?”

“Let me check.” Clement flipped through the documents. He looked at the end of the documents and said, ” For this new project, Encounter Gaming is working on a shooting game. And we need to design a few female characters. You’ll be responsible for this character.”

Madelyn responded, “Okay. Thank you.

She put down her bag before looking at the sketches in her hand that were almost completed. She was disappointed. This was her first-time taking charge of a project. She thought she could handle it very well. However, she still messed it up in the end.

This time, it was her fault that she wasted time. She could not blame anyone else. She thought, ‘Even if I feel regretful now, there’s nothing I can do to fix it. The sketches in my hand now have turned into wasted drafts.”

Madelyn threw the sketches into the trash can. Soon after, Jane rose from her seat. Good news! Encounter Gaming’s bonus just came through. The finance team will distribute it to everyone’s bank accounts shortly.”

Everyone stood up, clapped, and cheered. They said, “Thank you!”

The bonus was a handsome amount, no wonder everyone was elated.

“But…” Jane’s gaze settled on Madelyn, her tone turning frosty. “Madelyn, your delays forced the team to pull several all -nighters. Therefore, you won’t be receiving a share. Are you okay with that?”

Madelyn, without hesitation, replied, ” I understand.”

Clement jumped to Madelyn’s defense. “Jane, you should know that she was sick during the days she was absent. She didn’t miss work for no reason. Moreover, there were still several days left until the submission deadline. With Madelyn’s skills, she would’ve easily caught up.”

Jane responded, “Clement, did I not tell you? Encounter Gaming asked us to complete the project as quickly as possible. Everyone had their parts ready, and we couldn’t wait just because one person lagged behind.”

She coldly added, “Reasons for falling behind don’t concern me.”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
