The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 635

Madelyn forcefully wiped away the traces he had left on her. She did not know if he did it on purpose. Before work, she stopped at the restroom and saw a small cut on her lip in the mirror. She touched it lightly and thought, ‘Is he a dog?’

She had hidden a mark on her neck with makeup before getting to work.

The sound of someone flushing echoed in the washroom. The door opened, and Jane emerged from within the stall. She glanced indifferently at Madelyn and walked to the sink next to hers. Then, she washed her hands and walked away without even greeting.

Madelyn had always noticed the unexplainable hostility Jane had toward her. While the two of them were from the same studio, they hardly talked. Madelyn only spoke to Jane when she had to..

Madelyn quickly freshened up and returned to the studio. She opened the door and saw Clement holding a stack of documents.

“Madelyn? Aren’t you sick and on leave? Why’d you come back so quickly? Madelyn smiled and said, “Mhm. I was discharged early. Thanks for covering for me for the past few days.”

“No worries. It’s my pleasure.”

Meanwhile, Dorian-who had come over to print documents-noticed the cut on Madelyn’s lips, which was rather thought-provoking. “What happened to your lips? Don’t tell me your fiance… Showed you what he’s capable of last night?”

“I actually broke off our engagement four years ago. I currently don’t have a fiance,” she replied..

“What?!” someone shouted in astonishment. Many gazes in the office turned to Madelyn. She talked about it like it was no big deal.

She didn’t want to keep it a secret. If she did, rumors might start. Things got quiet for a moment. Then Dorian said, “It’s okay. You’ll meet someone even better.”

“I chose to end the engagement,’ Madelyn said. “We’re still on good terms.” She looked down. “I need to get back to work.”

She walked past them and went to her desk. There was not much work for them to do after Leonardo had his art exhibition. They occasionally took on some projects like the one she was currently working on for a major gaming company. She had to create conceptual design drawings for the game’s 3D modelers to use as a manuscript for modeling work. She also had to create concept landscape paintings. Everyone had their own jobs and a deadline in three weeks. Madelyn had to catch up.

Madelyn wasn’t very familiar with games, but she always did her best to follow the client’s needs. She sent her designs once they were done, made any changes they asked for, and sent them back.

Although Madelyn was the youngest in the studio, her capabilities were evident. Over the years, she had won numerous awards in competitions for her work. Only Leonardo in the studio had won as many.

Leonardo had suggested Madelyn to pursue postgraduate studies, which was something Madelyn had considered.

However, Madelyn did not know how much longer she could hold out. She felt she had no regrets after she had been to so many places over the four years.

She sat by herself near a window. Clement came over with food he had gotten for her – chicken soup.

“I got this soup for you,” Clement said. “It’ll help since you’re not feeling well.”

Madelyn thanked him and tried a bit. Then, she went back to her work. Clement joined the group at the big table.

Dorian teased him, “Stop staring. She’s out of your league. She’s beautiful, talented, and from a good family. She won’t go for regular guys like us. Dude, wake up!”

Clement looked upset. “What are you talking about?”

Dorian was blunt. “Everyone can see it.”

Clement pushed Dorian’s arm off his shoulder and retorted, “Don’t make things up. We’re just friends.”

“You’re not fooling anybody.”

Clement muttered, “Jerk,” and moved to another seat with his food.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
