The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 517

Madelyn switched off the lights, unsure whether Zach had left. She was worried that he would come in, so she changed into pajama pants and went to the master bedroom next to hers.

As soon as she lay down, the man beside her snuggled up closer and hugged her from behind. He said lazily into her ear, “Where’d you go?”

“I was worried I’d wake you up, so I went back to my room to shower. Go back to sleep,” she replied a little absentmindedly.

“Mhm.” Ethan quickly fell back asleep while inhaling her scent. Madelyn reached out to switch off the bedside lamp, and the entire room went dark. She shut her eves and forced herself to stop overthinking.

‘He wouldn’t dare to go against the Arnold family, given his current power. In the future, I’ll be Mrs. Arnold. The two of us won’t have anything to do with each other. While I’m still afraid of Zach and his threats and tactics, I shouldn’t let what happened in the past continue. I can’t let him threaten me time and again,’ she thought.

Before Madelyn even realized it, she quickly fell asleep. The following morning, Madelyn was awoken by the sunlight filtering in. She stretched and peeked out of her covers. Then, she immediately saw Ethan smiling at her.

“Good morning,”

“Good morning,” Madelyn replied.

“It’s not morning anymore. Shall we get out of bed?”

“What time is it?”

“It’s noon.” Madelyn had not expected to have overslept so long. “What time did you wake up? Why didn’t you wake me up too?”

“Mrs. Arnold-to-be can afford to be lazy and sleep in a little.” He continued, “I’ll get out of bed first and get your toothpaste ready. Don’t forget to change out of your pajamas.”

“Okay,” replied Madelyn. Ethan changed out of his pajamas and handed Madelyn her toothbrush with toothpaste on it. He looked at her reflection in the mirror and noticed her dark eye circles, “Do you want to see a psychiatrist? You kept on talking in your sleep last night.”

Madelyn paused from brushing her teeth, “What… What did I say?” Ethan hugged her on the waist from behind. Then, he lowered his head and kissed her on the neck.

“I forgot. I didn’t really hear what you said.”

“Is that so? I don’t even remember what I dreamed of last night,” Madelyn said as she spat out the toothpaste. She quickly gargled and took the towel Ethan handed her. She wiped her mouth and continued, “By the way, is Mya alright? Let’s visit her at the hospital later.”

‘If Mya hadn’t pushed me away, I would’ve been the one in the hospital right now,’ she thought. “Alright. I’ll go with you,” said Ethan.

After the incident yesterday, Ethan thought it was too dangerous to let Madelyn go around alone. Ethan took a day off and personally drove Madelyn to the hospital.

Madelyn had an uneasy look in her eyes when they arrived. ‘Of all the hospitals…’ she thought. Leyton walked out of the hospital entrance, “Mr. Arnold. Ms. Jent.”

Madelyn thought in astonishment, Leyton’s still here at the hospital? Did he spend the entire night here?’ They took the elevator that led to the inpatient department as Leyton pressed on a floor button.

“What’s the situation?”

“It’s almost settled. Turns out that homeless man last night was a wanted murderer. He’s killed many students over the past six years. He’s been lurking at the entrances of various schools and targeting students who were alone.”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
