The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 498

Wincy Burton came over and slammed her hands on Zach’s desk. She was really bold. “Zach Jardin, twenty-six years old, godson adopted by Hayson Jent.

“You sponsored a pretty student from a music academy, and she somehow died at a ski resort last year after an argument with you.

“Two months ago, you handed over Alma’s development rights to my brother. You also made a deal with Regal Corporation for Alma’s development, but it’s only supposed to last three months. Oddly enough, my brother ended up in jail, and the day before you visited him, he died mysteriously in there.”

Kevin didn’t look happy. “Miss Burton, please mind your words. This is a workplace. If you keep causing a scene, we can call the police.”

Wincy grinned. “Sure, call them! Let the cops investigate my brother’s case properly. He was perfectly fine, so why was he arrested and then suddenly died?”

Zach put down his papers and told Kevin, “Please leave.”

Kevin nodded and left, closing the door behind him. Zach stood up and said, “You’ve done your homework. Go on.” Wincy saw the file and raised her voice. “You investigated me? How dare you!”

“I need to know who I am dealing with, right?” Zach took out a pack of cigarettes and lit one. “Did you come here just to grill me about this?”

“So you’re admitting it. My brother’s death is your doing?” Wincy’s gaze pierced through her sunglasses as she kept pressing on. She had been studying him since she walked in, realizing that Zach wasn’t just dangerous but far from simple, despite his good looks.

A cloud of smoke surrounded him as he smoked, the smell drifting away in the breeze. “I’m sorry about what happened to Randall. It’s tragic. But considering our partnership with Regal Corporation, I can only suggest that continuing to investigate won’t help you.”

“Zach Jardin,” she said, “What do you mean? You’re obviously a murderer, and you’re trying to act innocent.”

“Before you start calling me a murderer, use your head. Where’s the proof? Do you really think people will just believe your words? If you’re genuinely suspicious about Randall’s death, instead of hanging around here, why not focus on running Regal Corporation? What do you say, Miss Burton?”

“Alright… I won’t suspect you. Now, tell me, what were you doing when you went to see my brother before he died? Why did he die the next day?” Wincy took off her sunglasses, her voice frosty as she questioned him.

Zach replied, “No comment.”

Wincy smirked and casually walked over to his desk, taking a seat and crossing her legs. “Fine, if you won’t talk, I’ll just keep you company here today.”

Zach turned to her, his gaze holding a dangerous, icy intensity, a cold smirk forming on his face that sent chills down one’s spine.

Wincy noticed a framed photo on his desk and was briefly surprised. The face in the picture bore a resemblance to hers. She teased him, “Is this another one of your secret lovers?”

Zach caught her eyeing the photo, moved closer, and covered it. “You’re quite sharp, Miss Burton. It’s better to wear sunglasses during the recovery period to keep dust out of your eyes and prevent infections. Otherwise… that lovely face might get harmed.” There was a subtle and nearly imperceptible shift in his expression.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
