The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 411

Just then, a phone call interrupted her thoughts. It was an unknown number. Madelyn did not know who the number belonged to, but she had a faint idea.

For some reason, the unfamiliar string of numbers on the screen had turned into the words “Cecilia Samford.” Madelyn gripped the hem of her dress. It was like she had forgotten how to breathe.

She took the call and held the phone by her ear. Five seconds passed, and neither of them spoke. Madelyn could feel her heart pounding, “Hello? This is Madelyn Jent speaking. Who’s this?”

Madelyn heard the person on the other end of the line snickered. Then, they hung up the phone. The person’s blatant mockery was like a slap in Madelyn’s face.

‘Was that Donna Jolie? Didn’t she return a long time ago? That day, when Ethan found me after I disappeared, what was that fearful and strange look in his eyes?’ she wondered.

Madelyn squatted down, and her long hair fell over her face. She felt a sense of powerlessness washed over her. Deep down, Madelyn understood the truth. It was like the incidents in her past life were repeating themselves today.

“Madelyn…” Mya’s voice came. She was panting and seemed like she was looking for somebody. Finally, she found the familiar figure she was looking for.

Mya carefully walked over to Madelyn and crouched down in front of her, Madelyn, are you alright?” She gently stroked Madelyn’s back and said, “Are you not feeling well?”

Madelyn wiped her eyes and lifted her head, “What are you doing here?” Mya looked at her worriedly, “You didn’t seem quite right just now. I was worried about you, so I came.”

Madelyn smiled and forced a smile, I’m fine. You should go.”

“I’ll stay with you for a bit,” Mya sat beside Madelyn. Then, she took out a bottle of milk from her pocket, “Have something sweet. I don’t know what happened, but maybe this can cheer you up. I can hold you if you need to cry.

“I don’t need to cry or a hug, but thank you for the milk. I’m going back to class. Mya watched Madelyn’s retreating figure and looked back down at her fingers.

‘Did I say something wrong?’ she wondered guiltily. After what happened last night, things turned awry between Madelyn and Ethan. He usually texted Madelyn during her break times, but her message inbox was currently empty.

Madelyn switched off her phone to avoid any distractions. Meanwhile, every single secretary who went into Ethan’s office to send documents came out crying.

Those from different departments trembled in fear. A few employees who entered Ethan’s office had already gotten fired, so no one dared to go inside and ask him to sign some papers.

Leyton returned from running some errands and walked out of the elevator. He had never seen such a commotion outside of Ethan’s office. “What’re you all doing gathered at the door?”

Everyone rushed over to Leyton and looked at him like they had seen their white knight. One of the secretaries told him what happened. Leyton nodded, “I understand. Give me the documents. The rest of you can leave.”

“You really are a lifesaver, Leyton. Thank you.”

Everyone handed him their documents and ran off. Leyton opened the office door to see the room in complete disarray. “Who let you in? Get out!”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
