The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 378

As Ethan and Madelyn were about to settle the bill, they suddenly heard a melodious voice, “Mr. Arnold? What a coincidence! We meet again.”

Following the direction of the voice, Madelyn saw a lady who looked like a prominent socialite with flawless skin and an elegant demeanor. She did not know this woman, but recognized the person beside her. He was Kennedy, her classmate who consistently ranked first in their grade.

Madelyn looked at Kennedy and most likely guessed that these two were siblings. They shared similar facial features, making it evident at first glance. When Kennedy met Madelyn’s gaze, she nodded in greeting, and Kennedy did the same.

Ethan only glanced at Megan without saying anything. Instead, he noticed Madelyn’s gaze and asked, “Do you know him?” Madelyn answered truthfully, “He’s my classmate.”

Ethan relaxed his gaze. The cashier handed Ethan a bill. “Sir, this is your bill. Please take a look. Are you all together?”

When Madelyn was about to speak, Ethan’s cold voice cut in, “No.” After that, he turned to Madelyn and said in a softer tone, “The wallet’s in my pocket.”

Megan smiled to ease the awkwardness, “We’re at table 12. Could I have the bill, please?” “Sure, please wait a moment.”

Madelyn got his meaning. She reached into his coat and took out a black wallet. As she opened the wallet, she noticed a photo inside. It was a photo of her. She had taken it wearing the school uniform on the spur of the moment. Madelyn had natural curls, but she had found it troublesome to manage, so she had it permed into wavy curls. Later on, she had cut it short.

“Which card?” Madelyn did not know there was a photo of her in his wallet. With someone standing nearby, she felt a sudden warmth in her cheeks.

“Any card will do.” Madelyn randomly picked a card. Unbeknownst to her, Ethan’s expression briefly changed, and it quickly returned to normal. After settling the bill together, they all walked out of the restaurant.

“I never expected the CEO of Arnold Corporation to be so forgetful. We had a conversation at the last banquet.” As Megan spoke, she shifted her gaze to Madelyn. “Is she your sister?”

‘Sister? Do we look like siblings?’ Ethan thought as his expression hardened. Upon noticing the change in Ethan’s expression, Megan quickly smiled to ease the vibe. “I’m sorry. I must have misunderstood.”

“Ms. Johnson, is there a reason for you repeatedly interacting with me?” His tone turned colder. Megan hesitated, then shook her head. “I just wanted to greet you, no other intentions.”

“Is that so? I don’t know you that well, Ms. Johnson. I think it would be best for you to keep some distance from me from now on, because I have no patience for strangers. Besides, my girlfriend is here, and I don’t want any misunderstandings between us because of someone unimportant.”

Megan’s expression turned unpleasant. Even the best manners could not withstand Ethan’s piercing words, which seemed to subtly be implying that Megan was a nuisance to him.

From the beginning, Ethan had no intention of responding to Megan’s advances and had merely wanted to distance himself from her. However, as she approached him again and again, it seemed she was deliberately forcing his hand. He had no interest in women who came to him so eagerly, especially when he already had Madelyn.

Ethan left with Madelyn, leaving behind a displeased Megan. He opened the passenger door, and waited as Madelyn got into the car. He then explained the situation, afraid she might have misunderstood. Madelyn chuckled, “I believe you.”

‘Megan’s voice was probably the one I heard during our previous phone call.’

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
