The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1161

“My dad married into the family. My parents were both research scientists and always at the lab. After I was born, they shipped me off to my aunt’s. Maybe inheriting some of my parents’ natural talents, I coasted into Ventropolis University without putting in much effort…”

Before Blake finished her story, her phone at a side buzzed. The caller ID showed it was Liam. “Oh! How could I forget Liam is also coming over today? Hold on a second. I gotta take this call.”

Kevin glanced at the spot she had just occupied, his gaze deep and unreadable.

‘My past is too horrible to tell her about.

Kevin had never known his true name. He had grown up in the cold darkness of the criminal underworld, where survival meant following orders and wielding a knife. It had been a harsh world where only the strong survived.

Some said his mother had been a prostitute and his father a drug dealer. He had been abandoned at birth, with no name. Since he could remember, he had lived in a dark and foul-smelling sewer. His upbringing turned him into the person he became, a cold-hearted machine.

He had never seen the beauty of the world, until he met Zach and his entire life changed. Back then, he and Zach had been involved in illegal trafficking at the border, as fugitives desperate for money. They had crossed paths with undercover government agents and barely escaped the border alive. After their escape, both of them were badly injured.

Zach said, “You owe me your life. From now on, you follow my lead.”

“Okay.”

Zach continued, “The name you had before doesn’t suit you. From now on, you’ll go by Kevin Harrison.”

“Okay.”

While discussing the itinerary with Liam and Sean, Blake took the opportunity to sign another contract. By the time they finished, it was already dark. The chilly wind swept in. Blake walked Liam down to the apartment building and then stopped in her tracks.

“What’s wrong?” Liam turned to look at Blake.

Blake did not hold back and said, “I need to go back to Kevin for something. You go ahead.”

Liam clenched his fists, his eyes dimming with a hint of sadness. In a soft voice, he asked, “A-Are you two together?”

Blake said, “He hasn’t agreed yet, but I’m still trying to win him over. Liam, I appreciate your care all this time. We’ve known each other for so long, and you’ve become my best friend. I’ve always been a bit foolish. The more unattainable something is, the more I want to get it. I’ve been into him for a long time, and he’s given me a chance. I don’t want to give up. I’ve never been into someone as much as I am now.

Liam, will you support me in this?”

Liam struggled to speak. After a long pause, he finally said, “Yes, we’re…best friends! Blake, I give you my blessing.”

Blake smiled and walked up, patting his shoulder. “See, I knew it! Alright, you better head back now. It might start snowing soon. If you get a headache, remember to take your medicine. I’m leaving!” With that, she turned and jogged away.

Liam stood in place, watching her disappearing figure, his eyes slightly reddened by the wind. “But… I like you too…” he softly murmured, but his words scattered away, disappearing without a trace in the wind. Blake did not hear that sentence either.

Before leaving, Blake secretly recorded fingerprints. Back upstairs, she quietly unlocked the door and found the study empty. She then turned toward the bedroom. Kevin was sound asleep.

‘He’s asleep already?’

Treading on the plush carpet, Blake approached almost soundlessly. Just as she neared the bed, there was a sudden movement before she could make contact. Kevin swiftly got up and delivered a decisive blow, rendering the person unconscious.

Blake mumbled “You…” before blacking out.

Kevin caught the unconscious person, and his brow furrowed.

After fainting, Blake felt like she did not need her usual dose of melatonin. She slept straight through the night and woke up to daylight. Upon waking, Blake’s heart raced at the sight of Kevin still sleeping beside her. Gazing greedily, Blake could not get enough of Kevin’s handsome face, treating it like the most delicious delicacy.

She reached out to touch him, but unexpectedly found that she could not move her hand. She realized her hands had been tied with a belt, and her neck was sore. Blake recalled what happened, used her mouth to untie the belt, and leaned toward Kevin beside her.

Kevin’s closed eyes snapped open, and his voice instantly turned cold, “What are you doing?”

Feeling a leg draped over him, Kevin listened to Blake’s sleep talk and let go of his guard. “Pretending to sleep? I’ll let you sleep plenty later!”

“Why so grumpy? Didn’t you notice me trying to take advantage of you?” Blake gave up any pretense and snuggled into his arms, grabbing his hand and placing it around her waist.

“Since you’re not working, grab some more sleep. It’s still early now. Which one of us is making breakfast later, you or me?”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
