The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1132

Kevin picked up the cup of coffee nearby and took a sip. The bitter taste spread in his mouth. Without looking at Blake, he casually picked up a document and glanced at it, “Working for Cecilia for a while has made you savvier. Nice! You’re getting smarter!”

Blake almost lost it, “Who are you mocking? Listen, Kevin. Even though you’re my immediate supervisor, I’m not afraid of you. I have someone backing me up.”

“Are you using others to intimidate me? “Kevin asked.

Blake retorted, “We’re both employees. Why do you have the right to look down on me? You exploit me like this every day. I’m a human being, not a beast. Being constantly exploited like this by you all the time, is there any point of living?”

Kevin frowned, his tone turning cold, ” Enough of your nonsense. Let’s talk about work. I’m busy.”

Cough. Cough.

Kevin coughed a few times with his fist clenched halfway. His voice became hoarse.

Blake squinted, thinking, ‘Is this guy catching a cold? Whatever. Why should I care? Doesn’t he have his assistant? And there’s also Ms. Parker by his side!’

Blake’s expression turned serious when talking about work. She pulled a chair and leaned toward Kevin. Without reservation, she recounted everything Cecilia had said to her at the hospital, ” Why do you think Cecilia wants to bet with me on whether the wedding goes smoothly? Is she trying to crash the wedding? Or is she planning to send someone to cause trouble?

“I just hope it’s not Mr. Jardin’s ex- wife, but I think that’s impossible. Yvonne is still recovering in the hospital, so she can’t attend the wedding. Besides, with so many bodyguards checking every exit on the wedding day, it’s going to look like a military operation. People who don’t know might think they are guarding prisoners!”

Kevin shot Blake a sharp look, and she immediately thought she had said something wrong. She awkwardly covered her mouth and shut it tight. It was the first time that Kevin did not lecture her. Instead, he just looked at her with a gaze that she had never seen in his eyes before.

Kevin tapped his fingers on the tabletop thoughtfully. Then, he stood up and grabbed his suit from the chair. While putting it on, he warned her,” Watch your mouth and stop spreading rumors everywhere. You better pray there are no hiccups at the wedding because if Mrs. Jardin really bolts, you’ll be the first one Mr. Jardin comes after!”

Blake gulped nervously, “T-That can’t be! I think Mr. Jardin is pretty kind!”

Kevin took out his car keys and glanced at her sideways, “Without Mrs. Jardin, who do you think in Ventropolis could keep you safe? I almost forgot to tell you: start using that noggin of yours. Right here, right now, think about why the boss himself chose you to plan this wedding. Give me an answer when I get back.”

Blake was about to pass out with her eyes wide, “Mr. Harrison, please don’t leave me! I’m scared all alone. Why do you keep saying these things to freak me out?”

When Kevin opened the door, those outside overheard all of Blake’s words. Kevin said, “If you step out of the office, we will deduct your salary three times this month.”

Blake felt as if she would be better off digging a hole right there and burying herself on the spot. She thought, ‘How did I catch the boss’s eye for this? It’s a trap! A deadly trap! Did Madelyn really decide to run away from the wedding? If she bolts, Mr. Jardin will make minced meat out of me!’

To confirm this, Blake gave Madelyn a call. Madelyn picked up the call and asked, “What’s up, Blake?”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
