The manager smiled and continued, ” Mr. and Mrs. Jardin have reserved the whole place.”

Blake could not hide her envy. She said, “Imagine being that wealthy! One day, I’d love to do the same.”

Liam looked at Blake and smiled, “You will.”

Olivia stopped outside the corridor and said, “Mrs. Jardin just wants to meet Liam, so we don’t need to go in, Ms. Dion. Let’s just sit at the main dining area.”

Blake chuckled and boasted, “I’m sorry, but I’m here to meet my friend. I’ve already texted Madelyn on the way here.”

Liam chuckled and said, “It’s okay. She can come with me. You can go back, Olivia. When we are done, I will send Blake back.”

Olivia furrowed her brows, then swiftly suppressed her emotions. She replied, ” Alright, there are matters regarding your publishing that need my attention. Don’t forget to check your royalties this month. There might be a surprise in there.”

“Let’s go,” said Liam. He opened the door and ignored Olivia. Blake smiled at Liam followed him in.

In the VIP room, Madelyn was feeding Dalton with Margaret by her side. Margaret gazed at the table and swallowed hard, saying, “Oh my, these ribs are smoked. Look at its glistening fat. Just a bite would be heaven.”

“Hi, Madelyn.” Blake greeted and sat beside Madelyn. “Oh, let me see the baby.”

“You’re here too,” Madelyn said with surprise.

“Sorry, we’re late. There was a traffic jam. Can I hold Dalton?” Blake said.

Madelyn passed Dalton to Blake and turned to Liam. She asked, “You’re Xander Gale?”

Liam nodded and greeted, “Nice to meet you, Mrs. Jardin.”

Madelyn smiled and commented, “I didn’t expect you to be so young. Please, have a seat.”

Blake surveyed the VIP room and did not see Zach. She whispered to Madelyn, “Madelyn, is Mr. Jardin not with you?”

Madelyn adjusted Dalton’s hat and explained, “I told him that he didn’t need to come and had him go to work. He’ll join us after we eat. I didn’t want him to make you feel uneasy.”

Blake nodded and knew how uncomfortable it felt. It was like a poor student who just learned she would be dining with the principal, a perfect description of her state of panic.

“Madelyn, you’re so thoughtful. If Mr. Jardin was here, I wouldn’t even dare speak to you,” Blake cried. Zach was never nice to anyone besides Madelyn. Everyone had to be careful around him, even during meals.

“Oh yeah, why did you want to meet Liam, Madelyn? Are you a fan of his books?” Blake asked.

“Yes, Zach had mentioned him, so I wanted to see what the author of this bestseller would look like. Mr. Xander is quite young and talented,” Madelyn complimented Liam.

Liam accepted it, “Thank you.”

After that, Margaret brought Dalton for a walk. Dalton could not sit still and would throw a tantrum if someone did not hold him.

When they were done eating, Madelyn took out the first volume of the first printed book and had Liam sign it for her.

By then, Zach had finished his work and was waiting for Madelyn at The Deli’s entrance.

When Madelyn left, Blake let out a sigh of relief after seeing Madelyn leave in the car. By the time Blake returned to the VIP room, there were still a lot of leftovers.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
