The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning Chapter 1040 by Max Charming

The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 1040

Liam was looking at Blake the entire time. He said with a smile, “We’re acquainted. Are you heading home? Let me give you a lift.”

Blake responded, “I think…”

Before Blake rejected Liam, she noticed a bus pass by the bus stop. She immediately changed her mind, ” Thank you then.”

Blake’s colleague from the Editorial Department next to them glanced over with curiosity and said, “Mr. Xander, I’ve arranged a ride for you. It’ll be here very soon.”

Liam responded, “Okay.”

He wondered, ‘Could this be a new opportunity?’

Soon, the car arrived, Blake and Liam got into the cab together. She comfortably leaned back in the seat and said, “I usually take the bus after work. Never thought I’d get a ride home with my idol. Thanks, Liam.”

Liam’s gazed gently at Blake and said with a smile, “You don’t have to call me your idol. Just Liam is fine.”

Blake responded, “But I like calling you ‘my idol’.”

Liam replied, “Okay, it’s up to you.”

Curious, Blake asked, “What brings you to Jardin Corporation? If you’d told me, I could’ve gone to get you.”

Liam replied, “Just an interview.”

Blake responded, “An interview? But you’ve never liked interviews! There are rumors in the industry that you’re very mysterious. There are all sorts of speculations about you.”

Liam did not reply to her statement. He said, “Three days later, I’ll be hosting a book signing at the Ventropolis Library. Could you accompany me that day?”

Blake said excitedly, “Of course! I’d love to.”

The phone in her bag vibrated. And as the car jolted, the phone call was accidentally accepted. Blake was a very talkative person. She did not stop chatting with Liam throughout the journey. Even the driver playfully said she was talkative.

Liam patiently listened to her without getting annoyed. When they arrived at their destination, it was seven thirty in the evening. So, Liam invited her for dinner and went to a Venturian restaurant.

Since they had similar tastes, they ordered dishes they both liked. After a server poured water for them, Blake immediately drank some to soothe her throat. She said, “You’re the first person who never complained about me talking too much and never interrupted me. I’m so chatty that my friends think I’m a chatterbox and find me annoying.”

After Blake finished her water, Liam filled her glass and said, “No, I enjoy listening to you. It’s been a long time since someone talked to me this much.”

“Sorry, I need to use the washroom now,” said Blake.

Liam responded, “Okay.”

Blake usually brought her phone with her when she went to the washroom. It made her feel more secure.

As Blake checked her phone, she noticed there was a call just ended. She clicked on it and was surprised to find it was Kevin who called and it lasted for twenty minutes.

Blake had a sudden feeling of discomfort as she thought, ‘I must’ve accidentally answered the call. Kevin must’ve overheard my entire conversation with Liam. Hold on, why should I feel guilty?’

Blake dialed Kevin’s number but he did not pick up the call. On the second attempt, right before the call was about to be missed, Kevin slowly answered it. Blake said impatiently, “Why did you call me? Out with it.”

Kevin responded, “Come with me to a banquet in three days.”

Blake rolled her eyes and said, “Oh, now you remember me? Sorry, I already have plans that day. Try asking Susan. I’m not in the mood to go with you.”

She felt disdain and continued, “Don’t come near me in the future.”

Blake felt very good the moment she ended the call. When Blake returned to the table, the dishes were almost all served.

Liam wiped the utensils before handing them to Blake. She rarely did that because she thought unclean utensils would not make her sick. Liam accompanied Blake home after dinner.

Blake’s romantic relationship which only lasted one day did not bother her. She did not expect much from this relationship. Although she had trouble sleeping the night before, she could sleep soundly after she got home.

At ten thirty at night, Kevin drove home after work. He looked at his phone and there were no messages. As he drove, he unknowingly drove to Blake’s neighborhood. He looked up and noticed Blake’s place was dimly lit.

Kevin lowered the car window for ventilation. The warm air from the heater was dispersed. Then, he saw Liam in a corner.

Liam was with a woman near a flowerbed under the streetlamp. She handed him a suitcase and said, “Your mother was worried you wouldn’t get used to it. Everything at the place is arranged according to the setup at home.”

Liam replied, “Okay, thank you.”

He dragged the suitcase and walked into the residential area. He noticed the black car with its high beams on. The moment Kevin winded up his car window, his eyes met with Liam’s cold eyes.

Over the next three days, Blake was in high spirits at work. She was prepared to finish her last few days of work at Jardin Corporation and officially leave in four days.

As for the matter between Blake and Kevin, it seemed like their relationship had never started. Blake was feeling as carefree as ever in the past few days.

She would never become overly emotional over someone and lose herself. She believed she had many options when it came to potential romantic partners.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
