Dexter’s voice boomed through the room, “So what? Russell Group was built from the ground up by my father and even my grandfather’s generation. Even if I decide to give it up, it’s not your place to comment or criticize.” Dexter scanned the crowd, his presence finally making an impact.
Some people fell silent, their protests subdued. However, a few still voiced their concerns, “You can’t just abandon tens of thousands of employees. This is not a joke. You’re being reckless. If Old Mr. Russell were here, he would never allow you to behave so irresponsibly!”
The mention of Henry sent a jolt through Josie’s heart. She had unexpectedly crossed paths with Dexter. But instead of reacting, Dexter raised an eyebrow and scoffed, “Even if he were here, he would still support my decision, even if I dismantled and sold Russell Group. Who do you think you are to mention my grandfather?”
The power behind his words silenced everyone, leaving them speechless.
However, the solemn atmosphere was short- lived as Seth stood up once again. “Regardless, Russell Group’s current situation requires a solution. We need the right person to take the helm. Dexter, you haven’t been well recently. You should rest.”
Dexter looked at him disdainfully, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “Mr. Lockhart, who do you think would be more suitable then?”
The intensity in his eyes made Seth, who was over fifty years old, instinctively flinch. Soon, everyone’s gaze fell upon a pot-bellied man standing opposite them, his eyes gleaming with shrewdness.
“Dexter, you must allow those with the capability to take charge. Your experience is still insufficient. I have more experience. Rest assured, and leave it to me.” It was unmistakably Isaac.
In an instant, Dexter became the target of everyone’s criticism. However, he seemed unfazed, casually propping his head up halfway as he said, “Oh? I heard that you have managed to acquire forty- nine percent of the equity.”
His words sounded as if he was discussing the weather, devoid of any emotional fluctuations. Everyone exchanged glances.
Josie observed everything, suddenly realizing that something was amiss. Dexter’s reaction was unexpected, unless… he no longer desired to be Russell Group’s CEO.
Isaac quickly replied, “Of course, we currently hold equal equity, so I am fully entitled to ask the board members to vote on your impeachment.”
Dexter glanced at everyone. “Is that so? Then let’s begin.”
Josie furrowed her brows and walked towards the door, intending to push it open. However, it was locked from the other side. She turned around and asked, “What’s going on?”
The staff member was in a dilemma. “Mr. Fu meant that it can only be opened from the inside.”
The shareholders had already started raising their hands one after another. Josie felt extremely anxious, hoping to catch the attention of either Dexter or Larry. However, their focus was not outside.
She had no choice but to retrieve her phone and immediately dial Larry’s number. As she watched him freeze in surprise, then turn to look in her direction, she could tell he was utterly astonished. “Open the door.”
Larry was already drenched in sweat. Seeing the situation, he felt as if he had found a savior. Taking advantage of the moment when Dexter was not paying attention, he cautiously approached and turned the door lock. The door opened immediately, and Josie saw Isaac standing up and saying, “Six to four. Dexter, you’ve lost.”
With the equity evenly held, all the shareholders voted for Isaac. Indeed, Dexter had lost.
Dexter lazily looked over, and to his surprise, he saw Seth also raising his hand. He looked at each one of them, then nodded. “I lost.”
Listening closely to those words, one could detect a subtle hint of mockery.
Upon hearing those words, Josie couldn’t bear it. She pushed the door open forcefully, creating a resounding bang. Her voice was stern as she retorted, “I beg to differ!”
Everyone turned to look, including Dexter. Upon seeing her, he revealed a hint of surprise, his true emotions showing. He immediately stood up. “What brings you here?”
