Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 758

Han Muzi took several days to properly tidy her house. Although the house came fully-furnished, she didn’t like the style in the house. Hence, in the last few days, she changed the bedroom to a style she preferred. The unit was not as spacious as her condo back home, but it had good lighting. The sun shone brightly into the house everyday and the area wasn’t too noisy. Plus, there was a supermarket and shops nearby her building for her daily needs.

At the moment, she was still waiting for some news from the Yuchi Group. Two days had passed since her interview, but she had yet to receive any notice that she had been employed.

She was slightly worried, but she knew that worrying wouldn’t solve the problem and so she weighed her options… If I’m not qualified to work as a secretary’s assistant, maybe… I should take the next step and start slowly from the very bottom. I just have to think of it as starting all over again by working as the most basic staff member. I must at least be qualified as the most basic staff member. I’ll figure the rest of it out after joining the Yuchi Group. That was her plan.

Han Muzi finally received a phone call from Yuchi Group on the third day. They informed her that she passed the interview and that she should report for duty on time tomorrow at 8am. Han Muzi’s heart skipped a beat when she heard that and she was stunned to silence for ages.

“Hello, did you hear what I just said?” the woman on the other end of the line asked since she did not receive a response.

Han Muzi snapped back to reality and she nodded eagerly. “Yes, I heard you. Thank you! Should I report for duty directly tomorrow morning?”

“Yes, congratulations. You are the first to pass the interview in these few days.”

Han Muzi smiled while thanking her sincerely over the phone. After ending the phone call, she almost screamed in joy. However, she was lost in her thoughts soon enough. I bumped into him the other day, and he knows about my interview for the secretary’s assistant position… However, why didn’t he block my application? In all honesty, I’ve lost all hope, and I was planning that if I have yet to receive news by today, I would have to apply as a basic staff member. This is rather unexpected news. It seems like he believed what I said. In any case, it’s a good thing I managed to join the company.

The next day, Han Muzi reported for duty at the company. The receptionist was in shock when Han Muzi informed the front desk and she shot her a jealous look. “You are rather lucky. When you were here earlier, I thought you were just the same as the rest of them, and that you wouldn’t even stand a chance. Who would have guessed that you passed the interview? Can you share your secret of passing the interview?”

The gossipy receptionist tried to snoop. Han Muzi was amused by the receptionist’s reaction, but she answered calmly, “I interviewed just like everyone else. I suppose… I am lucky since I passed the interview.”

The receptionist hesitated before commenting, “I didn’t expect you to be so humble. I thought you’d gloat since you are the only one who passed the interview.” In that instant, the receptionist had an idea as to why Han Muzi passed the interview session. She is different from the rest of the interview candidates. She has a crisp and fresh aura about her. Her gaze is clear too and she doesn’t wear any perfume. Her makeup is light and conservative and, in fact, her clothes are quite casual too. It’s normal for girls wanting to dress up, but it really depends on the occasion and the status of the person. Those people were just trying to attract Yuchi Shen with their beauty and they have completely forgotten about the initial aim. They are here for an interview and the interviewer is not Yuchi Shen.

“There’s nothing to gloat about. It really is luck. I’m going up now.”

The other female receptionist at the front desk was filled with jealousy after she left. It was most probably the green-eyed monster speaking, “Why is she so lucky? I saw countless people failing the interview. How did she pass it in the first attempt? Besides, she isn’t that pretty. What are the higher management folks thinking?”

The receptionist, who spoke with Han Muzi, refuted immediately, “She is here to work and not for a beauty pageant. Why does she need to look good? Is she competing for the Miss World title? Furthermore, I think she’s quite pretty. She’s just not the stunning kind, but she is definitely easy on the eye!”

Meanwhile, Han Muzi had learnt her lesson from her previous experience, and so she didn’t have the courage to ride the ‘President only’ elevator. Instead, she waited with everyone else for the staff elevator. The company was large and there were many people. When she arrived, Han Muzi saw a huge crowd waiting at the elevator entrance.

Everyone seemed to be busy. Some of them were even knotting their ties while speaking on the phone; some were holding breakfast while applying make-up.

This was actually quite common for those living in cities at a fast pace. They had most probably braved through the morning rush hour in the subway or bus. It was naturally easier and quicker for those who lived nearer to the workplace, but those who lived farther away would have to wake up at the break of dawn to make it in time via public transport. They would usually have their breakfast on the go in order to have that extra time for sleep while not being late for work. That was the norm for young people.

Han Muzi smiled. How long have I not worked like this? Fortunately, she rented a place that was close to her workplace and she could easily make it to work either on foot or by using the subway.

“Muzi?” someone called out for her in a pleasant surprise from behind.

Han Muzi turned around and she was surprised to see Rory. Huh? Why is she here?

Rory approached her with a thrilled expression and she seemed to appear excited as well. “It really is you! I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. You passed the interview! Congratulations!”

Han Muzi was rather curious. I passed the interview, but what about her? Why is she here? Did she… pass the interview as well? Is the secretary’s assistant position for two candidates?

Rory smiled happily while walking closer to her. “Are you curious why I’m here?”

Han Muzi nodded.

“In all honesty, I figured I wouldn’t get the job since you were in the interview for ten minutes. However, I am in a dire need for a job, and so I went ahead and applied for a basic staff position,” Rory explained.

I see. Han Muzi finally grasped the situation because she did not expect Rory to share the same idea as she did. If I can’t work as a secretary’s assistant, having a position as a basic staff member is fine as long as I can stay in this company. I am doing this because I need to. Could Rory want something here as well?

Rory smiled shyly when she spoke again, “In any case, the salary is much higher even as a basic staff member in Yuchi Group than other companies. Right now, I really need the money, and that is why I have no other choice. However, that’s fine because I can learn more if I work from the bottom.”

This girl is unexpectedly positive and cheerful. Han Muzi finally took her seriously before reaching out to her with a faint smile. “In that case, I should congratulate you too. Congratulations for officially working here.”

Rory was flattered when Han Muzi took the initiative to shake her hand. “You…”
