Han Muzi hesitated before asking, “Relationship problems?” She felt a headache forming and pinched her brows. She spoke helplessly after recalling what happened for the past few days, “Alright, it’s not safe at home for the next few days after all. I’m quite relieved that you are keeping Little Bean company anyway. By the way, is Qing suspicious?”
“I don’t think so. Everything seems normal with him, but maybe that’s because I… don’t have the courage to observe him directly. Hence, I’m not sure what’s on his mind. However, as long as he doesn’t ask you point-blank, I think it should be fine.”
“Mm-hmm.” The two of them chatted for a while before Han Muzi ended the call. She felt helpless about the reason Yan left the house, but Han Muzi had no choice but to accept it.
The next day, Han Muzi felt much better after waking up from her sleep. Her limbs felt lighter and more relaxed; it was undeniable that sleep was the best remedy upon falling sick.
She freshened up, had a change of clothes, and applied some make-up before heading downstairs. She prepared breakfast because she wanted to enjoy it at the company. However, by the time she was done, she realized she had prepared an extra portion.
Han Muzi stared at the extra portion of breakfast in front of her, and a handsome face flashed through her mind suddenly. She snapped back to her senses with a start, and she shook her head to clear her mind.
No, why did I prepare breakfast for Ye Moxuan without realizing it? Haven’t I decided to reject him?
In the end, Han Muzi left the house with both portions of breakfast anyway. After locking up, she waited in front of the elevator. As she stared at the floor display, her heart rate increased steadily like the ascending floors. She started feeling nervous somehow.
She bit her lower lip and was suddenly annoyed with her emotions because she realized she was actually anticipating Ye Moxuan to walk out of the door.
After realizing what she was truly feeling, Han Muzi’s expression darkened. Hence, she wanted nothing more than to have the elevator move faster, just so she could enter the elevator before Ye Moxuan got out; that way, she could avoid him. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know how to face Ye Moxuan when I’m having such mixed feelings.
Ding! The elevator doors finally opened, and Han Muzi stepped in quickly, as if afraid that Ye Moxuan might walk out of the house any second now.
She stared at the elevator doors as it closed gradually, and when she was finally alone in the elevator, she finally let out a sigh of relief. However, at the same time, she felt a sense of melancholy arise in her heart.
She placed a palm over her chest. She especially hated this feeling. I should be at peace with myself. I shouldn’t have this type of feelings toward Ye Moxuan even if I can’t fully achieve that. From the time I decided to return to China, I already planned to bury all my feelings. However, who would have expected… I can make all the plans I want, but it’s nothing compared to fate.
The elevator descended smoothly. In fact, no one entered throughout the descent, and so she had peace and quiet all to herself.
She arrived at the first floor smoothly. Han Muzi inhaled deeply while she collected herself and revealed a smile. It’s alright. It’s just two sandwiches. I can give one to Yan later in the company. It’s not specifically for Ye Moxuan, anyway.
Ding! Han Muzi was about to walk out of the elevator in her high heels with a smile across her face. However, she was stumped when she looked up and saw the person outside.
The person standing at the elevator doors looked rather anxious. Who else could the handsome and anxious man be, if not Ye Moxuan?
He took a step into the elevator and grabbed her wrist before asking in a panicked voice, “Are you alright?”
Han Muzi paused before she stuttered, “W-What happened?”
Ye Moxuan squinted at her while giving her a once-over, and he relaxed significantly after confirming that she was fine. Then, he pulled her out of the elevator.
“What is it?” Han Muzi was still bewildered because she had no idea why he looked extremely nervous. Besides, she didn’t expect to bump into him here. Has he been waiting for me here? But his expression says otherwise.
Ye Moxuan pursed his lips while gazing at her sternly. “You shouldn’t head out without me in the future.”
“Why not? I was just riding the elevator.”
“You must not, even if it’s just riding the elevator.” Ye Moxuan had a very dark expression; in fact, he seemed to be in a foul mood. “Do you know how nervous I was when I saw you heading out when I was checking my phone just now? I just went out to buy you breakfast. Why must you always make others worry about you?”
Han Muzi blinked several times. “Did you say that you saw me heading out when you checked your phone?”
Ye Moxuan fell silent upon her questioning.
Han Muzi giggled while teasing him, “In that case, are you admitting that you’ve installed a camera at the entrance of my house?”
Ye Moxuan gritted his teeth in frustration. I fell into her trap because of my nervousness.
He didn’t have to answer her; it was already an acknowledgement in silence.
Looking at his deflated appearance, Han Muzi suddenly felt happy. She wasn’t sure if it was because of the disappointment of not seeing him earlier, which was reversed by the delight of his sudden appearance; or maybe, it was the fact that she managed to render Ye Moxuan speechless. In short, she was now in a good mood. Hence, she asked him, “Did you buy breakfast for me? What did you get for me?”
Ye Moxuan still had a depressed look, but since she sounded happy, and she seemed fine, he handed her the bag. “I just simply bought some food.”
She reached out to accept it. She caught a whiff of the delicious food when she opened the bag to check its contents.
It was some warm milk and a small portion of egg rolls. She stared at it for a while before asking him in a daze, “Did you only buy one portion?”
“It’s for you,” answered Ye Moxuan promptly. Then, he reached out and took the car keys from Han Muzi. “Let’s go.”
Han Muzi was caught off guard when he snatched her keys away, and so she followed him while looking confused. “Where are we going?”
“Aren’t you going to the company since you woke up so early? I’ll drive you there.”
Han Muzi was stunned to silence. Did he buy breakfast for me because he knew I’d be going to work? The bag she held suddenly felt heavy and hot to the touch. After glancing at the milk and egg rolls, she followed him in silence to the parking lot. After getting into the car, Han Muzi fastened her seatbelt in silence.
Soon, the car drove out of the residential community. Ye Moxuan reminded her while gripping the steering wheel, “The milk is hot, and you should have it when it’s still warm. Don’t space out because we are arriving at the company soon.”
I’m holding the milk in my hands; I obviously know that I should have it warm. After processing her thoughts, she couldn’t help but look up at him. “Is there only one portion of breakfast?”
Ye Moxuan answered her, “Mm-hmm.”
“Have you had yours already?” Han Muzi persisted.
Ye Moxuan hesitated before nodding. “Mm-hmm.”
Han Muzi felt something was off, and so she squinted at Ye Moxuan menacingly. When I asked him earlier, he wasn’t hesitant with his replies. However, he hesitated before nodding when I asked if he’s had his breakfast. This shows that…
“Did you buy me breakfast right after waking up?”
“Yep.”
“In that case, why did you claim that you already had your breakfast? How does that make sense?” Han Muzi sounded as if she was interrogating him toward the end of the sentence.
