The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 999

Her gentle voice disappeared in the loud fireworks. Many people came out to watch them. Madelyn held a snowflake, which melted in her palm as she left.

She felt disconnected from the lights and the lively atmosphere behind her. She gradually walked further away from the noise.

Madelyn preferred to be alone rather than enjoying the lights. She had never liked being alone before. But now, she was all alone.

Madelyn wrapped her scarf tighter around her. She buried half of her face in it. After walking a short distance, she reached the lively streets.

Although it was in the middle of the night, many people were still walking on the streets. It was very crowded. Madelyn remembered that in the past, people rarely hung out on the main streets of Ventropolis at this hour.

She lifted her head and saw the lively scene. After pondering for a moment, she turned around and decided to walk toward a quiet alley. The sound of fireworks behind her gradually faded. A black car followed her from a safe distance. Madelyn lowered her head, thinking about something. She did not notice the car until the glaring high beam suddenly illuminated her from behind when she was about to enter a narrow alley.

However, she did not stop walking. She just continued walking toward an even darker area.

Madelyn ignored the honking of the car.

Then, in the darkness, Madelyn watched someone who had just passed her. Her eyes were extremely cold as she stared at his back.

Madelyn continued walking away in the direction opposite to him. The distance between them grew gradually.

She was lost in her thoughts, ‘Zach, although you have everything now, some things can never be found again, no matter how hard you look.

‘I’ve already moved on. I stopped hating you a long time ago. In the past, I paid all my attention to you. When I look back, Zach, you’re just ordinary.’

Madelyn took a taxi back to Southern Haven Villas.

When a maid saw her return, she exclaimed, “Mrs. Jardin, you’re finally back! You should call Mr. Jardin immediately. He’s very worried about you. He called home many times.”

Madelyn removed the scarf around her neck and brushed off the snowflakes and water droplets. Then, she hung it on the rack. She looked worn out as she removed her coat. She walked tiredly, “Please make me a bowl of carrot ginger soup and bring it to my room.”

She supported herself on the handrail as she slowly walked upstairs. She had waited for a long time for the taxi just now. She was caught in the snow, and her hair was a little wet.

Since Zach was not back yet, Madelyn took the opportunity to shower in Dalton’s room.

Dalton was already asleep in the baby’s room while Margaret was leaning over the side of the bed. The sound of Madelyn switching on the light disturbed them. Margaret opened her eyes, Oh my gosh, Ms. Jent? Why are you back so late?”

Madelyn only switched on one lamp, “It’s okay, I’m just going to shower. You can continue sleeping.”

Margaret yawned as she looked at Dalton, who was still asleep. She quickly got up to prepare a sleeping gown for Madelyn.

A car swiftly stopped outside the entrance door, leaving a deep mark on the ground as the tires gripped the surface.

Zach got out of the car and noticed the lights were still on. He then entered the house and saw a maid heading upstairs, carrying a bowl of carrot ginger soup.

“Mr. Jardin, Mrs. Jardin is home. She’s upstairs. This carrot ginger soup is for her.”

Zach took the soup and went upstairs.

Madelyn had just come out of the bathroom while drying her semi-wet hair. The door of the room was left open. When Margaret saw Zach, she quietly put down the hairdryer and left to give them some space.

Madelyn met Zach’s chilly eyes. She noticed his gaze carried the intent of questioning, but she just casually looked away. She then noticed Zach placing the soup on the table from her peripheral vision. She pulled out a chair and said, “Thank you.”

Dalton was still sleeping. So, her voice was soft when she said that.

She draped a dry towel over her shoulders and just let her hair dry on its own.

Madelyn then drank the soup. When the phone near her hand vibrated, she quickly switched it to silent mode. She glanced at the group chat messages and thought, ‘I remember I muted the group chat.’

She read the messages. Some of them were apologies to her.

Madelyn forgot what had happened. She assumed they mistakenly sent the messages. She did not care much about it..

“It’s very late now. Do you need something?” Madelyn felt warmer after a few sips of the carrot ginger soup.

Zach stared at her intensely. He lifted his hand with his fingers trembling before putting it down again. He wanted to say something. But in the end, he just asked, “Did you have a good time today?”

“Not bad. I was in the opposite room and heard that Jardin Corporation had closed a thirty- billion-dollar contract. Congratulations. Many of my junior colleagues envy you and are eager to work at your company.” Madelyn quickly finished the soup. After putting down the spoon, she got up to brush her teeth. She walked past him to the bathroom. She noticed Zach was still in the room after brushing her teeth.

The calmer she appeared, the more emotions penned up in Zach- especially suppressed anger.

He preferred it if she showed some anger as that would mean his presence could still evoke her emotions, meaning she still cared about him.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
