The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 907

“Thanks a lot. I’m happy to visit today, “Lana said with a smile.

Madelyn stood at the third-floor window and saw Kai’s car pull away. She squinted at the pregnant lady beside him, trying to remember where she had seen her before. ‘Wow, Kai’s been really secretive. He got married and is having a baby,’ Madelyn thought. ‘He looked like he genuinely cared for her at dinner. It’s unbelievable. Kai and Zach made sure I’d never become a mom. And now, Kai thinks a simple “sorry” makes everything okay? No way. Guys like him deserve to be alone, just like Zach probably will be.’

Zach crept up from behind and wrapped his arms around her. “You seem better. Maybe it’s time to pay back what’s due?” he murmured.

“Do I owe you something? You’ve got it all wrong, Zach. I’m not the one in debt here,” she snapped back.

Zach pondered her sudden anger. He had not made out with her in ages. ‘If this keeps up, I might as well take a vow of celibacy,’ he mused.

As she left the bedroom, Zach was about to go after her, but his ringtone cut through the silence. He watched her fade away as he picked up the phone and strode into his study. “Speak up,” he said with an icy tone.

The caller stumbled over his words, ” Um, M-Mr. Jardin, I followed your instructions and sent the piece to the media. It’ll be in the newspapers within the hour.”

“Put Kevin on the line,” Zach said. Kevin’s voice came through, “Mr. Jardin.”

“Tell the PR team to prepare for a press briefing in two hours,” Zach said.

“Will do.”

Zach ended the call and changed into a clean shirt and pants. He found his expensive watch in a little drawer at Madelyn’s dressing table and snapped it onto his wrist. Then, he went to the studio where Madelyn was busy with her draft. “I’m off to the office and will return shortly,” he said. Madelyn barely glanced at him, “Yeah, do whatever you like.”

Zach did not want her to sit there stewing in her thoughts. Squatting next to her to catch her eyes, he said, ” How about we try the new strawberry cake from Maple Street Patisserie? It’s supposed to be delicious.”

Madelyn gripped her paintbrush and swirled it in the blue paint before facing Zach, “I’ve outgrown those things, Zach. Go ahead and leave if that’s what you want. Just let me be, alright?”

Zach’s smile was slight and restrained as he rose to his feet. “Remember to rest. And if you feel sick, call me.” He reminded her softly. He wondered when he last heard from her; it had to be at least four years, maybe five.

Leaving the house, Zach made his way to Jardin Corporation. About forty minutes later, standing outside the company, Kevin informed him, “The reporters are all here.”

“Got it,” Zach acknowledged with a brief nod.

With a push, Kevin swung open the conference room door.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
