The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 870

When Zach came back, he looked down the hallway and noticed that the light was on in the art room.

As soon as he pushed open the door to the art room, he saw Madelyn, who had long hair. She was wearing a scarf, sitting with a paintbrush in her hand working on a canvas with an easel. She knew Zach had come back when she heard the room door open. However, she did not turn to look at him and continued with her work.

Zach draped a black suit jacket over Madelyn’s shoulders. She stopped painting. Zach then kneeled down in front of her, “Why are you still up so late?”

He had been out enjoying himself and had just returned after a long time. When Madelyn heard his voice now, she felt both unfamiliar and yet familiar.

She casually responded without looking at him, “I woke up and didn’t know what to do, so I decided to finish up my work.”

Zach looked at her painting. It was a forest scene after a rain, with raindrops still clinging to the leaves, creating an enchantingly misty scenery.

Zach did not understand art much, but even he could tell from her brushwork that she was quite skilled.

He asked, “What are you painting?”

Madelyn expressionlessly answered, “Savanna Forest. The new game my colleague designed needs a background, and the deadline is in three days.”

When Zach heard the name, his eyes instantly darkened and exuded a cold vibe.

The alcohol scent on him quickly dissipated in the air. Other than the alcohol scent on the jacket, it also had a sharp perfume scent.

Madelyn took off the jacket and handed it back to him, “Go take a bath and get some rest. Mya is in Dal’s room, don’t disturb her.”

Zach stood up and suddenly grabbed her wrist. Madelyn lost her grip on the paintbrush and caused it to fall to the ground. She said, “What are you doing?!” She lowered her voice as she remembered the people sleeping in the next room.

Her hand was held in mid-air. Zach’s grip was so strong that it left a red mark on her hand. Madelyn looked at it and frowned.

Zach’s gloomy eyes were filled with emotion as he stared at her. The calmer he appeared, the more intense he was feeling.

He did not speak, so Madelyn had no idea what had made him angry.

It might have been the effects of alcohol, but she had sensed something was not right from the moment he entered the room. However, she had not been able put her finger on it.

Madelyn thought, ‘I still can’t forget him even now.”

Zach suddenly held her head and lowered his head to passionately kiss her. Her mouth was filled with his saliva that carried the bitter taste of alcohol and the taste of tobacco.

She put her hands on his chest and murmured, “Hmm… Let go… Please let go…

She could not break free, so Madelyn slowly gave up struggling. It felt like he was punishing her as he bit her lip, causing her to emit a soft moan.

She tasted a faint taste of blood in her mouth. She struggled to suppress the nauseating taste. She still could not push him away.

After some time, Zach pressed Madelyn, whose body went limp, against the floor-to-ceiling window. She rested her hands on the window. She thought he would take his next move, but he still did not do it after a long time.

“If you want to do it, do it quickly. Don’t disturb them, Madelyn’s tone was devoid of emotion as if doing this with him was a routine, allowing him to complete what he wanted to do.

In the mirror, Madelyn’s hair was disheveled in the midst of passion. The scarf that had been draped over her had fallen to the ground. There were still traces of blood on the wound on her lip, which looked seductive. However, she looked uninterested. Her eyes were lifeless, and she was not looking at him. The sexual act seemed like torture for her, and she was reluctant.

Zach was hurt when he saw her calm gaze.

Madelyn stopped her rapid breathing. He did not do any rough action. Zach, who was behind her, pulled up the slipped straps of her nightgown from her shoulder before tenderly hugging her.

He rested his chin on her shoulder. Madelyn looked at him through the mirror and noticed the weariness in his eyes. He said, “Wait for a little longer. I’ll be done soon.”

Madelyn’s long hair hung over her other shoulder. She could feel his warmth. However, her eyes were empty as she looked at the night outside covered in lingering snow. She responded, “Can you let me go now? Zach Jardin, the smell on you is making me want to puke!”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
