The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning Chapter 853 by Max Charming

The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 853

At midnight, thunder boomed, jolting everyone awake. It echoed through Southern Haven Villas, making Dalton cry. Madelyn soothed him until he was calm, changed the wet sheets, and tossed them into the laundry hamper.

The thunder outside continued. Madelyn decided to take Dalton to Zach’s study. Dalton had recently put on some weight, so her arms began to ache after holding him. She sat on the couch and entertained Dalton with small toys. They were okay in the study, but Dalton started to cry again once they stepped outside.

Madelyn gently tapped Dalton’s nose, “Are you that scared of thunder?”

“Ma-Mama.”

Madelyn did not respond.

“Mama.”

“Ah, Ma-Mama.”

Madelyn looked at him, and he yawned. She tenderly picked him up, ready to head back to the room. Just then, she heard the sound of a car pulling up outside, and its headlights flashed past. Unfazed, Madelyn turned off the lights in the study and headed back to her room.

Kai looked up at the upper floor, helping a drunken Zach out of the car. He took the keys from Zach’s pocket, unlocked the door, and plopped him onto the couch without hesitation. He mocked Zach, saying, Drinking with me when you have such low tolerance? No wonder Cecilia got the better of you.”

Without delay, Kai glanced down the hallway and put down the keys, leaving the villa immediately. As he got into his car and buckled up, his phone rang. He was about to dismiss the unknown call when he saw Madelyn standing by the third-floor window of the villa, her phone up to her ear. He accepted the call.

“It’s rare for you to call me,” Kai said.

Madelyn, dressed in a thin nightgown, maintained a cool expression as she said in a detached tone,” Does your word still count?”

Kai replied, “It always does, no matter what.”

“Good. I need your help.”

Kai agreed immediately, “I’ll help with anything. Just say the word.” Kai started, “These days, are you–”

His question was left unfinished as Madelyn, getting her answer, ended the conversation abruptly.

Once she was back in her room, Madelyn closed the curtains. Kai, smiling slightly, looked away. He ignored another incoming call, accelerated, and left the villa.

Shortly after Madelyn got into bed and drifted off, she heard unsteady footsteps outside her room. Suddenly, the door swung open, and a figure stumbled in, collapsing onto the bed and wrapping her tightly in an embrace. Madelyn opened her eyes, staring blankly at the dark corner of the room.

“Why don’t you ever call me?”

Madelyn felt his warm body and smelled the strong scent of alcohol. She whispered, “Dal just fell asleep. Don’t wake him up.”

The drunk Zach tried to get closer to Madelyn. Her voice slightly trembled as she pushed his hand away, Zach! It’s late, I need to rest.” But Zach did not stop; the alcohol made him bold. He tried to kiss her again.

Madelyn frowned, uncomfortable with his advances. She knew resisting would not change much. Even if she could push him away, what then? Zach’s actions were wild, making Madelyn feel lost, like she was caught in a storm without an escape.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
