The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 850

At the dinner table, Madelyn was feeding Dalton some chicken puree. When Dalton tried to grab the spoon, Zach reacted faster, holding Dalton’s hand back. “Stop squirming and eat.”

Dalton let out a protesting whimper at Zach and suddenly dunked his hand into the bowl. Madelyn steadied the bowl immediately.

“Acting up, are we?” Zach’s tone was stern.

Madelyn wiped Dalton’s hands with some napkins. “He’s just a kid. Why’re you being so hard on him? He doesn’t understand.”

“Maybe the maid should feed him.”

Madelyn had wished Zach could be more understanding toward Dalton. Watching Dalton, with his bottom lip quivering and tears forming in his closed eyes, was heart-wrenching for her. The emotion she felt was all too familiar; she could not bear to see Dalton cry. Without finishing her meal, Madelyn took Dalton into her arms and moved to the couch. As she did, Margaret approached with a bottle of baby formula, saying, “Ms. Jent, giving Dal this might soothe him.”

“Thanks for all your help recently. If you ever need a day off, just let me know.”

Margaret waved her hand dismissively. “I’m not tired. I just cook and look after Dal. It’s more relaxed here than at my own home.” When Dalton got hurt under her watch, she had been too afraid to face Madelyn. However, realizing that Madelyn did not blame her brought relief.

Zach sat down next to Madelyn with a bowl of oatmeal. When she looked up from Dalton, he offered her a spoonful. “Finish the oatmeal first. The baby can wait a moment.”

Madelyn said, “I’ve had enough.”

“Just a few more bites?”

“I can’t eat any more.”

As Madelyn tried to move away with Dalton, Zach followed closely. She knew even if she went to the room, he would persuade her to finish the oatmeal. When she paused, he asked, “Are you sure you won’t finish this?”

“Do you realize you’re being a bit much?”

Dalton clutched his bottle in Madelyn’s arms. His big eyes, still shiny from crying, looked as if he was watching an exciting movie.

Zach said, “Whether you find me annoying or not, you have to eat.” Without waiting, he fed Madelyn another spoonful. She joked, “At this rate, I’ll gain weight.”

With a smile, Zach wiped her mouth and replied, “A few extra pounds? You’d rock them.”

Madelyn felt Zach’s intense gaze, different from his usual looks. She finished her food and turned her attention elsewhere. “I’m done. You can leave.”

“Alright.” Zach put the spoon away and playfully ruffled her hair. “Take a little break. I’ll be in the office, working on some stuff.”

Madelyn lay on the bed, feeling sleepy and not really paying attention to Zach. Dalton, cradled in her arms, hiccupped softly, looking content after his meal. Gently tapping his nose, she asked, “Dal, can you say mama’ again for me?”

Dalton squinted, resting his hand on her chest, and called out, “Mama.”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
