The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 846

Margaret kept herself busy, preparing the oatmeal.

Madelyn sensed a reassuring presence, a warm hand holding hers, connected to the IV drip-it was Zach. Slowly opening her eyes, she saw the face she least wanted to encounter at that moment. With a feeble voice, she inquired, “Where’s Dal?”

Zach reassured her, “He’s all right now. Someone’s looking after him. Are you hungry? How about some oatmeal?”

Madelyn looked at Zach, her expression composed. Over the past three months, she had picked up bits of his history through his whispered words while he held her as she slept. ‘Did his past with the Jent family lead to this bitterness? He’s already taken his revenge, so why continue to hurt others? Why this ruthlessness?’ Nearby, she noticed a familiar art album on the nightstand.

Zach noticed that Madelyn’s focus had shifted to the art album. Assisting her to sit up, he arranged a pillow behind her and then handed her the art album.

“I thought I’d lost this forever. How did it end up with you?” she asked.

He sensed the chill in her hand and tucked it under the blanket. “Someone took it, but I managed to retrieve it for you.”

As Madelyn delicately touched the art album’s cover, some of her hair fell across her face. Zach gently moved it behind her ear. “Take a look inside, see if anything’s amiss,” he suggested.

Madelyn leafed through the well-known pages, memories flooding back. “Thanks for this,” she said. She had visited all the places depicted in the art album during her four-year absence.

Zach took her hand, giving it a gentle kiss. “It’s great to have you back. Are you hungry? Margaret made some oatmeal. Would you like some?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

Madelyn allowed Zach to feed her, and he smiled. They had a peaceful moment together. After finishing almost half, she said, “That’s enough.”

He nodded and put the bowl down. “You can have more later if you want. Kai wants you to stay in the hospital a little longer. But once you’re good to go, we can head home.”

She met his gaze. “I need a break. Can you step out for a while?” As she spoke, she gently pulled her hand away.

Zach hesitated. “Of course. Take your time, and I’ll check on you later.”

Madelyn settled into her bed, turning away from Zach and closing her eyes. She heard him leave the room, and when she was sure he was gone, she opened her eyes. Having slept so much, she was now wide awake. Her claim of needing rest was just an excuse; she felt uncertain about facing him and didn’t know what to say. Lying there, she pondered, ‘Why am I even here? Why did I wake up?’

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
