The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 767

Madelyn shivered, grappling with unfamiliar emotions. ‘Mom’s childhood sweetheart? But Rosario said Mom was an orphan and Father took her in, right?’

Even in the warm living room, Madelyn felt a chill go down her spine. She made her way to the study and opened the pink leather-bound notebook. As she leafed through its pages, she paused at one with precise, fine handwriting.

[January 20th, 1975, sunny. I turned sixteen today! Agustin gifted me a necklace and a stunning white pony. Can’t wait to ride it around town. I wonder what Mom and Dad have planned for my birthday.]

[January 21st, 1975, cloudy. I was out riding Agustin’s pony when a man on a large horse, sporting tall boots, startled me. He snarkily called me a “whiny little kid.” And my new outfit from Mom? It got ripped.]

[March 28th, 1975. That man from before returned, asking Dad for money. From the doorway, I caught his eye. His towering height and intense look sent me hurrying back to my room. Mom says he’s around to protect Willowbrookshire, and Bethany seems to be smitten with him. She’s even mentioning marriage. But after he yelled at me that one time, I just see him as a bully.]

‘Willowbrookshire? Where’s that?’ Madelyn had never heard of the place. She flipped through the pages, which seemed to chronicle her mother’s teen years.

[July 12th, 1976. He still didn’t come home tonight. Where could he be? I’m sorry, Erick. I won’t snap at you again, promise. Can you please come back?]

‘Erick? Not coming home? Was Mom living with this guy when she was just seventeen?’ It was not unusual for young couples to be living together at that age. Madelyn read several pages, then moved further ahead in the diary.

[May 20th, 1978. He finally agreed to marry me! Soon, his wealth, including those shiny diamonds, will be mine. I’ll be the center of attention in Willowbrookshire. However, last night, while he was sleeping, I spotted another wrinkle on his face. Why is he aging so quickly? He might find it hard to match my pace soon. He’s keen on us having a baby, but I think I’m not ready yet.

The idea of childbirth is intimidating. But now that I think about it, having a child together might not be so bad after all. He said there’s a special diamond waiting if I decide to. The notion of having multiple children for more diamonds did cross my mind. If we had a daughter first, Madelyn might be a fitting name. Tonight, he took me out to see the moon, and its beauty was unmatched. I hope our daughter, if we have one, shines as brightly as I do.]

Some pages were faded and others smeared, leaving them almost unreadable. There was a brownish stain that looked like dried out blood, seemingly soaked through from another page.

Madelyn’s expression changed to a serious one. The information in front of her was significant. While the exact date and time on some pages were unclear, she could still decipher them. Most entries in the dairy mentioned a man named “Erick,” but there was no mention of her father’s name.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
