The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 720

Madelyn looked at Kai warily. “Why should I believe you?”

Kai brushed the wrinkles from his crisp white coat. “I’ve said my piece. Whether you believe it or not is your business.”

“Look, I have no reason to trust you,” 11 Madelyn retorted, weariness lining her voice. “You know, I don’t have the time or the emotional capacity to worry about this anymore. If you’re seeking revenge against my family through me or want to use me for some purpose, you’ve got it all wrong. I’ve washed my hands of the past. Whether it’s my father or the cause of my mother’s death, what does it matter now?

What do you expect a woman with less than six months to live to do? If my mother were here, she wouldn’t want me agonizing over the past either. Maybe this is my fate, not living to see thirty. Maybe it’s my comeuppance for being his daughter.”

Madelyn gazed at the man sitting in the wheelchair, who was also watching her intently. She managed a faint smile, and he returned it. “All I want is right in front of me.”

Madelyn’s bodyguard nudged her impatiently. “Ms. Jent, it’s time to go.”

Madelyn’s eyes locked with Kai’s once more. “That photo album my father left -the little boy standing next to my mother in those pictures…that’s you, isn’t it?”

Kai’s lips curved up, though his eyes remained icy. “Those pictures of her? He had no right to keep them. Just as you had no right to be born.”

A sharp pain seized Madelyn’s chest as if someone had just grabbed hold of her heart.

“You’ll never understand the love of a mother for her child, Kai. If it were me, I’d give my life to bring her into this world,” she declared, her voice tinged with emotion.

“Ms. Jent, if we don’t leave now, we’ll really be late,” urged the bodyguard. Turning away, Madelyn left without looking back. Kai watched her board the helicopter, his smile cold and scheming. “You really think you can escape, Madelyn?”

Meanwhile, the lavish wedding ceremony on the hotel lawn proceeded as planned, the who’s who of society in attendance. The media swarmed, documenting what seemed to be the wedding of the century. But little did they know, it was all just beginning.

Yvonne glanced at a message from the bodyguard, confirming that Madelyn had reached the airport. Admiring herself in the mirror, Yvonne was dressed in a red dress, adorned with a string of expensive pearls, and her hair redone by her hairstylist. She touched her earrings and thought with immense satisfaction. ‘Madelyn, you’d better stay gone forever.’

As time passed, Yvonne grew restless.” Daisy, can you check on him? What’s taking so long?” Daisy was Yvonne’s professional bridesmaid. Finally, Yvonne decided to go herself. “Never mind, I’ll go check.”

Just as Yvonne was about to step out of her hotel room, a bodyguard blocked her path. “Mr. Jardin says you’re not to leave the hotel until he returns.”

Taken aback, Yvonne stuttered, “Wh- Where’s he going?” Her initial joy evaporated, replaced by a scowl. “There are still guests in the lobby! Where else could he go?”

The bodyguard remained silent. Yvonne did not need any more confirmation. She staggered back a step, her face pale. “He knows, doesn’t he?”

“Don’t worry. The guests have been dismissed. As for the media, everything will be handled according to protocol,” assured the bodyguard.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
