The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 688

The bodyguards were worried. They believed that if Madelyn kept going like this, her legs might give out, even if they weren’t hurt.

When Madelyn finally reached the mountaintop, it had taken her nearly three hours. The place was buzzing with tourists and believers alike. She bought a bouquet of fresh flowers from a young girl and went into the prayer building.

Madelyn found a seat, closed her eyes, and folded her hands, but her mind was empty. She didn’t have any more wishes like she used to. Or to be exact, she didn’t know what to wish for anymore.

Safety for her family? Her one and only father had already abandoned her. Friends? Her friends always seemed to have their own hidden agendas. As for love, Madelyn had already decided she wouldn’t get married in this lifetime.

‘I’m all by myself. What else is there to wish for? Good health? Can I even live a long life? I have very limited time.’

“We meet again, Ms. Jent,” the abbot, who had been quietly standing there, suddenly greeted her. Madelyn was a bit surprised. “You… You still remember me?”

“Four years ago, you visited this place. Are you here today to fulfill a vow or do you have other favors to ask for?”

One of the bodyguards placed the bouquet in a vase while Madelyn continued to sit, her eyes filled with confusion and a touch of wonder.

“Back then,” Madelyn said, “I only wished for the health and safety of the people around me. Now they’re all doing well. But there is one person I don’t know about, and I’m not sure if I should fulfill my vow.”

“This time,” she continued, her brows furrowing in thought, “I came thinking about what I could ask for myself. But… when I really thought about it, I realized I couldn’t ask for anything.”

“You remind me of someone I met years ago,” the abbot began, his gaze thoughtful. “At that time, she was pregnant and made two requests: the safety of her husband and the well- being of her child.” He paused, looking at Madelyn. “I asked her why she didn’t ask for something for herself. You and she are similar, both kind-hearted people.”

Madelyn curiously asked, “Did she ever come back?”

The abbot shook his head. “Why don’t we talk about your other unfulfilled wishes instead?”

‘Wishes?’ Madelyn’s biggest wish was to have a child, the one she had been pregnant with in her previous life. Her sole regret was losing that child.

Madelyn shook her head, “What I want, maybe even the heavens can’t grant. This time, let it be for fulfilling a vow.” After saying this, she got up.

“Good things will come your way.”

“Thank you.”

After Madelyn left, the abbot watched her retreating figure for a long time and said, ‘I hope you won’t follow in Alicia’s footsteps.”

The bodyguard reminded Madelyn, Miss Jent, it’s getting late now. We should head down the mountain; it’ll be difficult to navigate in the dark.”

“No rush.” She was ready to face any challenging path.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
