The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 660

Their relationship wasn’t clear, but it seemed destiny always intended for Madelyn to be by his side. For the next few weeks, Madelyn did not see Cecilia. It seemed she had left France.

Madelyn missed the anniversary of her mother’s passing. She had been hiding her illness the entire time she was with Zach. After spending an evening with him, she woke up to find that dusk had set in.

Marie Durand, hired by Zach to look after Madelyn, truly cared for her. She could tell that even though Madelyn was beautiful, she was unhappy.

Handing Madelyn a shawl, Marie said, ” There’s a fountain show at the hotel today. It’d be good for you to see. You shouldn’t stay in your room forever.”

Madelyn replied, staring into the darkness, “I’ve been sick for a while now, Marie. You can go. You don’t have to stay here with me.”

“But Mr. Jardin asked me to be with you.” “He’ll understand. I just need to be alone for a bit.”

“Alright. Call me if you need anything. I won’t be far.” After Marie left, Madelyn sat on the balcony’s couch, looking at the countless stars. In the shadows, she pictured her mother.

“People say when you die, you become a star. Mom, will I become one too, when my time comes?”

“Maddie,” the voice she imagined was her mother’s, “when people pass, they can turn into anything: rain, sunset. If you remember them, they’ll feel close. Just like I do now because you’re thinking of me.”

“What if… what if one day, I can’t handle things anymore? Would you be mad at me?”

“Maddie, always remember you’re free to choose. Whatever you decide, I’ll be right there with you.”

Zach returned from his night out with a hint of alcohol on him. As Kevin updated him on work, they noticed Madelyn on the balcony, seemingly talking to herself. Kevin paused, his face showing surprise. Zach’s expression shifted, and he intently observed her. Under the moonlight, Madelyn’s pale appearance stood out, her eyes reflecting deep sorrow. It felt as if something inside her had shattered. Watching Madelyn converse with the empty space felt unsettling. ‘Is she alright?’ Kevin wondered.

“Father has your picture in his study but never mentions you. If he loved you so much, why start a new family and forget about me? Doesn’t he care about me? After all, I’m his daughter. Mom, I followed your advice and left home to see the world, but I still can’t find happiness. Everything feels painful. What should I do?” She whispered after a pause, “Mom… can I join you?”

“Madelyn,” the voice replied gently, ‘ It’s not your time yet. There’s someone still waiting for you.”

“Mom-”

As Madelyn got up from the sofa, she caught sight of Zach. She froze, unable to find words. Zach signaled, and Kevin promptly left the room.

Madelyn tried to recall when Zach had arrived.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
