The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 557

Madelyn endured the pain while showering. As the warm water trickled down from her head, Madelyn closed her eyes and still felt something was wrong. She touched the sensitive places on her nether regions. There were no swollen marks, and most of the pain was gone.

She did not see the red mark on her inner thigh. It was hidden from plain sight, so Madelyn did not notice.

‘Could I be overthinking it? Maybe nothing happened last night. Even if something did happen, I might’ve been in a drunken craze. How else could the roses be ruined just like that?’ Madelyn thought.

She remembered that she had seen people not remembering anything after getting drunk. Madelyn swiftly brushed aside her worries. After showering for half an hour, she came out wrapped in a towel. If she looked behind herself, she would see love marks all over her back from the mirror.

After she got dressed, Madelyn called Ethan. In half a minute, he picked up her call. She asked him, “Ethan, how is Evelyn?”

“Ms. Jent!” The person who picked up the call was Leyton.

“Mr. Spear?” Madelyn was confused. “It’s me, Leyton. Mr. Arnold suddenly had some business to handle, so he might be unable to accompany you to Paris. I’ve arranged a chauffeur for the hotel. They will send you to the airport. Mr. Arnold has arranged for everything beforehand once you arrive in Paris. When you get to the airport, personnel will be designated to pick you up; we will rush to meet you after a week. Mr. Arnold is still in a meeting, so I apologize to you on his behalf,” Leyton answered.

“It’s alright. Company affairs are more important. Is Evelyn okay?” Madelyn asked. She was slightly disappointed as this was the first time she was leaving Ventropolis and venturing to somewhere unknown. She had never been to somewhere so far before, and it would be a lie if she said she was not nervous or scared.

“Don’t worry, Ms. Jent. Mrs. Arnold Sr. is fine,” Leyton said. “I’m glad Evelyn is fine. You can go back to work, Leyton. I have to leave soon, too,” Madelyn replied.

“Safe trip, Ms. Jent,” Leyton wished her.

“Alright,” Madelyn said. After Madelyn hung up the call, Leyton raised his head and said, “Don’t worry, Mr. Arnold. Ms. Jent will be fine alone. The bodyguards will be there around the clock to protect her wellbeing.”

“Mmm,” Ethan answered. ‘Could this be divine intervention? Could Mr. Arnold ever escape Donna’s clutches?’ Leyton thought.

Thankfully, Madelyn had left, giving Ethan enough time to handle this issue. Otherwise, the consequences would be unimaginable if she knew about it. This was never a simple affair since the start. However, a week was enough for him to resolve this issue. The only thing Ethan did not know was whether Madelyn could accept the existence of this child. (2

At twelve o’clock, the plane departing for Paris was preparing to take off. A vehicle was parked at a clearing outside the airport. The engine of the aircraft roared as it flew over their heads. It left a white trail behind.

“It seems you’ve lost this bet, yet it feels like you’ve also won. Congratulations! You’ve succeeded in getting your sister,” Kai ridiculed.

Zach, sitting in the driver’s seat, was surprisingly not mad. Instead, he was much gentler than usual. He seemed content, like a beast that had had its fill. Zach replied, “The games have only just started.”

“You’re not satisfied with just a single Jent family? You want the Arnold family, too?” Kai asked. He squinted his eyes while staring at Zach.

“I think you’ve gone mad, Zach. Doing this all by yourself? You’re biting off more than you can chew,” Kai critiqued.

Zach stared at the plane until it disappeared into the clouds. He then retracted his gaze and had a smile on his face, “Are you so eager to know my secrets?”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
