The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 542

Ethan’s voice, tinged with regret echoed from behind, “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have gone behind your back, nor should I have kept you in the dark. My fears got the better of me.’

“I was afraid that once I found out those things, you’d leave without hesitation, and I’d be powerless to stop you,” he confessed, “I’ve never wanted to hurt you, not even with a harsh word… Madelyn… I love you! The more I love you, the harder it is for me to accept the truth I uncovered. I never intended for you to leave. Those words about canceling the engagement, they were just said out of anger.” 2

His voice broke slightly, “I… I only have you! Please don’t go, regardless of whether it’s true or not. I don’t care anymore. I just want you to stay by my side. I don’t want to lose you.”

Ethan had lost so many people in his life; he didn’t want to lose the one person he cared about the most.

Ethan enveloped her in a tight embrace, his voice trembling with desperation. “Tell me it’s not true, please? Even if it means lying to me.” The vulnerability in his tone was palpable. In the pitch-black room, Madelyn opened her eyes, surprisingly calm. her emotions

“Alright, Ethan. The girl in those photos isn’t me. But you have to promise me one thing – from now on, no matter what transpires, you won’t bottle things up. Share with me, okay?”

It was true, the person in those images wasn’t her. But what she hadn’t revealed was the way Zach had once pressured her into donning those intimate apparel. Back then, she could only comply with Zach’s commands.

“Okay,” Ethan replied. Madelyn said, “You should take a shower and get some sleep. The smell isn’t pleasant.”

“Just let me hold you a little longer,” Ethan requested. Madelyn thought she really should get some sleep, or she would struggle to wake up tomorrow. She closed her eyes, feeling a weight lifted off her chest, and soon drifted off.

Two hours later, in a drowsy state, someone turned her over. She smelled a faint, refreshing scent of shower gel and immediately fell back asleep. Three days flew by, and it was soon time for the exam.

On a scorching day, the entrance to Ventropolis High School was crowded with parents, all chattering nervously. They were all eagerly awaiting this important day. Ethan turned to Madelyn and said, “Do your best. I’ll pick you up when it’s over. ”

“Got it.”

“No need to be too nervous.’ “I know.” Madelyn replied, stepping out of the car. In truth, she wasn’t very nervous at all.

Since that night, their relationship had returned to how it used to be. Yet, a noticeable change was Ethan’s intensified need to be near her, as if he wished to cherish every shared moment.

Suddenly, the blaring horn of a bus broke through her thoughts. As it came to a halt and its doors swung open, Madelyn cast a backward glance. As she was about to resume her path, a face from her past froze her in place. She was startled, her face turning pale.

‘Cecilia Samford!’

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
