The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning by Max Charming Chapter 514

“Fred, get her back to safety.”

Fred heard the man say in the earpiece. However, he chose to ignore the command. Madelyn said, “I’m more valuable than her. I’m Hayson Jent’s daughter. Leave Mya alone.”

Mya looked pitiful. She had tears streaming down her face. “Madelyn, I’m… I’m not scared. Don’t come closer.

“It’s you! You’re all from the same side, Duncan looked at Madelyn with a hateful gaze. Suddenly, he laughed sinisterly. “I had a hard time finding you. Come over here. Don’t try anything, or else… You know the consequences.”

Mya shouted, “No… Madelyn, no!”

Madelyn consoled her, “It’s fine. I won’t let anything happen to you, Mya. Zach shouted, “Fred!”

Just as everyone had their attention on Madelyn, Fred said calmly, “If she dies, you won’t have any weak points left. I won’t let anyone become your weak point.” “You know the consequences of defying me!” said Zach.

Duncan was one of the men who had sexually assaulted Jadie eight years ago. Back then, Zach did all that he could to track Duncan down. However, Duncan still ended up getting away. Now that he had finally shown up, he would not be able to escape even though he had completely changed his looks.

Duncan managed to pull what he did today purely out of luck. “Alright. Come here. You better not try anything,” said Duncan.

Kennedy-who was behind Madelyn- gave Lem a look. Lem nervously swallowed.  Madelyn walked over, and Duncan released Mya. Just as Mya and Madelyn exchanged places, Fred-who was masked- suddenly spoke.

“We’ll spare you for the sake of the young lady. You better run as far as you can because if we get you, you won’t be this lucky again,” he said as he turned around to leave.

The two left promptly. Duncan released Madelyn. Suddenly, he lifted his knife and charged at her.

“Die!”

BANG!

A gunshot ran out. Madelyn shut her eyes in fear. Before she could see what had happened, someone fell to the ground. Then, she was pulled into someone’s arms. The person’s embrace was familiar and soothing.

“Sorry… I’m late,” he said. Madelyn felt relief washed over her once tense body, “That… That was terrifying!” Ethan hugged her tightly. “You’re alright. You’re alright now…”

If it were not for the bodyguard Ethan had secretly put by Madelyn’s side, he would not have rushed over this quickly. He did not dare to imagine what would have happened if he had arrived a moment later.

“Leyton, clean this up.”

“Yes, sir.”

Ethan took off his blazer and draped it tightly over Madelyn. Then, he led her away.

“Mya… She’s…” Madelyn said.

Ethan replied, “Leyton’s here. She’ll be fine.” Madelyn turned to look at Mya. She had already fainted and was being supported by Kennedy.

Duncan’s death was gruesome. His brain matter was splattered all over the floor, leading to Mya fainting at sight.

The cops arrived at the scene, and Leyton stayed behind to give his statement as a witness. Meanwhile, the bodyguards took the unconscious Mya to the hospital.

The cops sealed the area with barricade tape to prevent others from entering. Fortunately, there were not many people in school at the time.

By the time the students from Ventropolis High School had gotten off school and walked out, the crime scene had already been cleaned up. Madelyn was terrified.

‘If Mya had not pushed me away, he wouldn’t have spared me nor given us the chance to get a breather,’ she thought.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
