The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning Chapter 486 by Max Charming

The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 486

Madelyn and Ethan stared out of the car window at the passing scenery. Neither of them spoke. They soon reached the Arnold residence. When the car stopped, Ethan hurriedly got out before Madelyn. He was acting strangely distant, unlike before.

Madelyn did not know what was wrong with him. She then got out of the car and walked toward the entrance. As soon as they entered the house, a servant approached, “Mr. Arnold, Ms. Jent, the food’s ready.”

Ethan did not even spare the servant a glance and just went straight upstairs. He seemed really upset, but nobody knew why. The servant took Madelyn’s school bag and asked, “Ms. Jent, what’s wrong with Mr. Arnold?”

Madelyn shook her head, “Serve the meal on a tray. I’ll take it upstairs to him later.” The servant responded, “Okay.”

Madelyn carried the meal and went to the study. She knocked on the door. But she did not get a response. So, she just entered the room anyway. The vintage study room was filled with a thick tobacco smell. Ethan was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window with a freshly lit cigarette in his hand.

Upon hearing the movement, Ethan did not turn his head. Madelyn placed the meal on the table and said, “If you’re busy with work, I won’t disturb you. Remember to eat. I’ll leave now.”

Ethan said, “Wait!” Madelyn was nervous when she heard his voice, “Is there anything else?” She placed her hands in front of her with her fingers interlocked.

Ethan threw the cigarette butt and turned around. His gaze was deep as he looked at her, “I looked into your father’s adopted son.”

Madelyn thought, ‘Zach?’

The calm atmosphere in the room suddenly became tense. Upon seeing her remain quiet, the cold aura emanated from Ethan became even colder, “About him… Do you have anything that you want to tell me?”

When he walked to her, Madelyn could feel a sense of oppression. The coldness and pressure from Ethan left Madelyn feeling trapped. He seemed to be trying to read something from her eyes. But she was too composed and revealed nothing.

Madelyn asked him, “What did out?”

Ethan stared at her closely. He was afraid that he might push her too far and make her feel terrified. So, he softened his tone, “What do you think?

Madelyn responded, “If you want to investigate him, I have nothing to say about it. You don’t have to tell me all this too. I’m going to eat now.” Ethan said, “I’m planning to acquire the Azure Corporation and remove him from his position.”

Madelyn stopped at the door. She faintly replied without turning her head, “This is your decision. And it has nothing to do with me. Do as you please. Ethan pondered in his mind, ‘Does she truly not care, or is she putting on an act?’

‘Madelyn, you attempted suicide just to be with him! Did you only get together with me because he didn’t want you? You cared so much about him that you were willing to throw your life away. But you’ve never cared about me. And you don’t even care to explain at all!’

When the servant went to collect the plates and utensils, she saw a mess on the floor.

Ethan, who rarely smoked, was sitting on the couch. The floor was full of cigarette butts. And the room was filled with an irritating tobacco smell.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
