The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 482

Mya, who had repeatedly called Madelyn’s name, ran over to her. She was holding a basket of strawberries and smiling brightly. She ran so quickly that the wind ruffled her hair. Madelyn slowed down to wait for Mya. Mya reached Madelyn’s side and said, “Why are you so late today? I’ve been waiting for you for so long. Quick. try these strawberries. My family grew these!”

As Madelyn opened her mouth to speak, a strawberry was shoved into her mouth. She bit off half of it and said, “Thank you. It’s delicious.”

Mya tirelessly talked by Madelyn’s ear. For the past few days, Mya had been bothering Madelyn a lot. Apart from attending classes, she would go looking for Madelyn immediately after classes. Madelyn wondered if Mya had nothing else to do.

Madelyn just continued walking and rarely responded to what Mya said. She did not want Mya to get too close to her, since she believed that things would not end well for anyone who got too close to her. She remembered that Zach had once used Mya to threaten and blackmail her, so she did not dare to make friends with anyone.

Madelyn was afraid that if she grew attached to someone, that person would become her weakness. Ethan watched Madelyn until she entered the school and disappeared from his sight. He then smiled and looked away, “Who’s that girl?”

Leyton responded, “She’s from the Harper family.”

Ethan asked, “Which Harper family?” Leyton explained, “Not long ago, I unintentionally got to know that Mrs. Arnold Sr. recently hired an expert in animal husbandry. Coincidentally, that expert happens to be the father of this friend of Ms. Jent’s.”

Ethan smiled faintly, “It’s the first time I’ve seen that look on Madelyn’s face. She wanted to be angry but couldn’t show it. This Harper girl has done something that I didn’t dare to do.

Leyton said, “Mr. Arnold, should we investigate this person? I’m worried that she might have impure motives for getting close to Ms. Jent.”

Ethan replied, “No need. Just drive. Madelyn can recognize that herself.” If Madelyn didn’t like Mya, she would not have behaved like that just now. Moreover, for the past few days when Ethan dropped her at school, he had seen Mya waiting for Madelyn every day…

He believed it was good that Madelyn had a friend. What Ethan feared the most was Madelyn being lonely at school. She was an introverted person and did not like to talk, and he could not always accompany her. He was also afraid that if she continued to act this way, she would end up like he used to be.

He then thought about the scar on Madelyn’s hand, ‘Even though she tried to hide it, I still saw it. A lot of the things that happened to her were related to that adopted son of the Jent family… It seems like things are more complex than what I’d initially imagined.’

In the office of the CEO of the Arnold Corporation, Ethan stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window. Leyton asked in surprise, “Caustic soda? Before he was sent to prison, I specifically instructed not to let anyone see him. How did Randall get the packet of caustic soda?”

Ethan touched the watch on his wrist. He lowered his head and thought deeply, “Find out who’d seen Randall these past few days and report back to me within half an hour.”

He thought, ‘This morning, Madelyn’s expression was off after she saw this newspaper. Obviously, she knew something. She appears to be afraid and shows resistance toward him. Otherwise, why’d she leave the Jent family and not even want to stay in her own home?”

Leyton nodded, “Okay.”

Soon, he found out the information. Surveillance cameras captured a black car that arrived at Ventropolis First Prison. And the person who got out of the car was Zach. Ethan thought, ‘It’s really him.’

Leyton said, “According to the surveillance footage, from the time he entered to the time he left, it was a total of one hour. What’s strange is that he met Randall alone in the interrogation room. And during that one hour, other than his assistant, no one knew what they’d talked about.

“After that, he died the next day. This is too suspicious.”

Ethan lowered his head and chuckled sarcastically, “So ambitious! I should’ve guessed earlier that he wasn’t that simple. All the troubles that Madelyn had encountered before this are probably related to him.

“Find out what he’s been doing in the Jent family all these years…”

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
