The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning By Max Charming chapter 420

“Exactly! What if she decides to complain to Ethan Arnold? My parents could get into serious trouble.”

A sly gleam appeared in Kayla’s eyes as she said, “You all are worthless. But don’t fret, she won’t be with Ethan for much longer.”

She thought, ‘She began with such confidence, openly declaring Ethan Arnold as her boyfriend. Now, her boyfriend is cheating on her. She must be feeling so embarrassed.’

Madelyn left the school, and her driver, who didn’t expect her to finish school early today, was still waiting outside. She headed to a cellphone repair shop to get her phone fixed.

The shop owner examined her phone and said, “This is the latest model! The screen is in such bad shape that repairing it will cost almost as much as buying a new phone. It might be better not to fix it. I just got some new models in. Would you like to take a look?”

Madelyn hesitated for a moment. “Um, okay.” She didn’t have anything particularly important on her phone, aside from the usual junk messages and the occasional call. She didn’t use it for much else.

In the end, she chose an older model, a Philips. It was durable and waterproof but had fewer features. For her, it was enough. She began transferring numbers from her old phone to the new one based on her call history.

With her head down, Madelyn suddenly bumped into someone. Startled, she quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…” When she looked up and saw the woman she had bumped into on the ground, she was surprised to see that it was Sylvia. Madelyn hurriedly helped her up. “It’s okay.”

Sylvia’s voice was as gentle as ever. Madelyn was equally surprised. “Mrs. Arnold, what brings you here?”

Sylvia smiled wryly. “A teacher called to inform me that Forrest hasn’t been to school for several days. He’s always been impulsive and immature. I can’t seem to control him now… cough, cough…”

Suddenly, Sylvia began coughing and covered her mouth with a handkerchief. Madelyn noticed a trace of blood on the handkerchief.

“You…”

Sylvia smiled gently and said, “It’s just my condition acting up.” She held Madelyn’s hand and said, “Promise me not to tell Forrest about my situation, okay? Consider it a plea from me.” Madelyn frowned, realizing why Sylvia’s complexion was so pale. She said, “Let’s get you to the hospital.”

“No, there’s no need. My health has deteriorated over the years, and there’s no cure for it now.”

“That’s not true. There are many hospitals now. If they can’t treat you here, you can seek treatment abroad. Even if you don’t want to think about yourself, think about Forrest. Right now, you’re his only family.”

When Sylvia thought about her son, her eyes filled with sorrow. “…He’s going to grow up eventually. I can’t be with him forever.”

She had always carried regret for bringing Forrest into the Arnold family. She knew he had suffered a lot of mistreatments. Over the years, he had kept everything to himself, refusing to talk to her about it.

“Cough, cough, cough…”

Madelyn couldn’t bear to hear more. She said, “Let’s not discuss it further. You shouldn’t have gone out alone today. I’ll call a taxi right now to take you to the hospital.”

Madelyn understood the difficult situation Sylvia and Forrest faced within the Arnold family. Their life, as mother and son, was no less challenging than her own.

From Ethan’s perspective, Madelyn shouldn’t have meddled in Sylvia’s affairs. Ethan’s youthful rebellion and suffering had been the result of a broken family caused by Sylvia. But Forrest had saved her, so how could Madelyn not care about Sylvia?

Madelyn quickly hailed a taxi and took Sylvia to the hospital. At the hospital, she stayed by Sylvia’s side, rushing around to accompany her for checkups.

After the doctors conducted some tests, they all looked concerned and recommended hospitalization, suggesting it might extend her life by a couple of years. However, Sylvia refused. Just as they emerged from the examination room, she suddenly coughed up blood and collapsed.

The doctors promptly arranged for nurses to admit her to the hospital.

Madelyn Jent died on her wedding anniversary. She had been married to Zach Jardin for eight years, compromising for the better part of her life. However, she ended up being kicked out of the house. After the painful divorce, Madelyn was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite her deteriorating health, she clung to life in the hospital, hoping that Zach would visit her one last time. As Valentine's Day arrived, heavy snow fell outside. Yet, Zach failed to make an appearance, leaving Madelyn with a deep sense of regret. "Zach Jardin... If I could start over, I would never fall in love with you again!"

Miraculously, Madelyn found herself reborn to the time when she was eighteen. Fueled by the desire to avoid repeating the same mistakes, she made a solemn vow to distance herself from everything related to Zach. But fate seemed determined to test her resolve. Just as she sought to escape the shadows of her past, the same man, Zach, emerged with an intimidating aura, gradually approaching her step by step. His voice, reminiscent of a devil's melody, echoed through the hallway as he declared, "Madelyn, I'll take care of you for the rest of your life..."

Chapter 1 On February 14th, Valentine's Day, Madelyn Jent, a 31-year-old woman, lost her battle to cancer. Inside a room in SereneCare Hospital in Ventropolis, the air was filled with a strong scent of disinfectant. [Zach, the doctor inserted a painful dialysis needle in me today.] [I'm on the verge of death. Could you spare a moment to visit me?] [Please, Zach...] Madelyn weakly turned her head and glanced at the text messages on her phone. Despite sending multiple messages, she had received no response from Zach. IV drips were connected to her veins. Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her body emaciated. Cancer had ravaged her limbs, causing them to deteriorate. She was completely immobile, unable to perform even the simplest tasks unaided. The nurse assigned to care for her hadn't shown up for almost two weeks, citing that further treatment was unnecessary. Madelyn was sensitive to the pain, but in the advanced stage of her cancer, she had to suffer with it every day. The only thing that kept her going was her love for Zach. But now, her once overwhelming love for him had faded. She was left with nothing but a frail and ailing body. Madelyn switched off her phone and silently awaited the embrace of death. The pain had nearly blurred her consciousness. She reminisced about the eight years she had devoted to being Zach's faithful wife. But what had she gained in the end? One by one, those around her had abandoned her, leaving her alone and destitute. Madelyn couldn't help but think that Zach would perhaps feel the greatest relief upon her demise. With her gone, he no longer subjected to the sight of her face. He could finally satisfy his longing to bring Cecilia Samford home as his wife. Eight months ago, on Zach's birthday, Madelyn sat on the couch, anxiously waiting for his return. It was well past two o'clock in the morning, and the carefully prepared meal on the table had grown cold. Instead of Zach, it was his assistant who arrived, bearing a divorce agreement. The assistant delivered the news hesitantly, saying, "Madam, Mr. Jardin had no choice. The Jardin Corporation is a vast enterprise that requires an heir." Madelyn forced a pale smile. A few years ago, she had been pregnant, but an accident had tragically led to a stillborn child. Since then, she hadn't been able to conceive.
